Do you take your own snacks to the cinema?

The Guardian continues its high impact journalism by posing an important question of our time: Do you take your own snacks to the cinema?

If you bring your own you risk getting thrown out. But does it stop you?

Editor Coment: I commonly bring whatever the hell I want. I've taken entire meals before.

I stuff my pants when necessary, although that's gotten me some strange looks and I tend to get funny looks when I break out my own air popper.

The movie theater near me had a "deal." Only $15 for a large soda and a large popcorn. WHAT!?!? I almost shit myself when I discovered a small drink and small popcorn cost 9.50, and on top of that the popcorn was stale.

Theaters keep raising their prices, I'll keep smuggling in food.

I think the theaters would really cut down on the rate of people sneaking stuff in if they would just charge more reasonable fees for the concessions stuff.

I don't have any problem with them making a profit off of it. I don't think anyone would. They could even charge a little more than a regular store and I think pretty much everyone would be willing to buy it there. The problem, as I see it, is the astronomical markup. If a candy bar costs 79 cents at the store, I have no problem paying you an even buck for it. I DO have a problem paying you 2.50 for it.

Bring the prices down out of the fucking stratosphere and I think volume sales would make up for the difference.

But what if selling concessions is the only way the theaters make any money.

Am I doing something wrong if I choose to go to the theater and take some food in. Is it wrong to go to the theater and simply NOT buy food at the concession stand, and not eat in the theater? Then what difference if I eat nothing, or eat something I brought? Buying their food is not compulsory for seeing a movie at the theater. I'm not stealing anything. I've paid to see the movie.

Think of it this way: is buying concessions compulsory? Do theaters have a two-drink minimum? The answer is no. You can buy a ticket to see a film, walk RIGHT PAST the concessions and go watch your movie. You brought in no food, so you ate nothing the whole time. This is all perfectly fine and within the rules.

If a theater would go out of business if that's what everyone did, then they have failed as a business model. If the concessions are absolutely necesary to pay your bills and keep the doors open, then guess what? You should have opened a restaurant.

If a business exists to show movies, then their movie prices should account for their operating costs. You'll notice that I'm not complaining about restaurants or bars not allowing outside food or drink.

The "but I only make money on the food stuff!" is only so much "Waaah I failed to create a successful business model, so now I need you to pay my exorbitant prices for ancillary goods to make up for it!"

A movie theater's business model should allow it to stay open and make money even if the movie is the ONLY thing being sold (no concessions). Anything else is a fail on their part.

The days of me lining up on Saturday night to sit in a packed theater with a bunch of socially ignorant retards is over.

I used to be a "go to the theater once or twice a week" kind of person - but as Alan Partridge once said: "I just hate... the general public." People really are getting ruder, louder and less respectful of other people - not just in theaters, but in restaurants, malls, grocery stores - people just don't give a shit about anyone else. And it's not like if you say "Would you please be quiet" anybody listens these days.

Just get a box of milk duds at the theatre concession stand ... not for eating though... for ammo to peg those annoying talkers at the movies, a few rounds usually does the trick ... the thing about buying the theatres milk duds is they are usually very hard and stale and make superior ammo to that found at other places...

And what's all this stuff about bag searching at the theater? Is this new? I've never been searched there in my life.

We are talking about getting snacks into a theatre right? Not smuggling a kilo of fine china white?

If you're too dumb to sneak food into a movie theater, you deserve to get caught.

Latino parents protest test in English

Angry Chicago Latino parents threatened Tuesday to keep their kids home on test day next month if state education officials insist on giving students who are still learning English an achievement test in English.

Editor Coment: America. One of the few countries in the world where the population bends over backward to accommodate the immigrants almost to fault...and that still isn't enough.

Seems like every week you look at the news and Latinos are whining about something else.

Get ready America for your next civil war. It will be over stuff like this. Hispanics are almost the majority and they do not like whitey, blacks, asians, or anything non-hispanic.

I remember when some group got all pissy about some dupont manuals not being bi-lingual back in the 80's, so they made the second language german. The group wanted it to be spanish, they were not amused.

FTA: "During a news conference Tuesday at the Logan Square Neighborhood Association, about two dozen Chicago Latino parents charged that the test mandate is "unfair,'' "anti-immigrant'' and "anti-bilingual education.'" Parents threatened to keep their kids home on test day next month if state education officials insist on giving students who are still learning English an achievement test in English.

You got lots of other ethnic groups in Chicago. Why is it that their kids seem to be up to speed and not worried about the test?

Shouldn't the test also be in French, German, Italian, Russian, Chinese, Japanese, Arabic, and every other language then to make it fair for all? Or does this just apply to Spanish speakers?

Why should the kids that speak Spanish be given an advantage over other kids learning English?

See, here's the thing, this isn't an aptitude test, it's an achievement test. They're not trying to measure how smart the child is, but rather how educated they have become. So, this test is accurately measuring their degree of achievement in English education.

My Spanish has grown weak from disuse of late, but I couldn't rightfully complain if I received a poor 'achievement' ranking in a test conducted in Spanish, so long as I understand that the achievement ranking was specifically referring to that context.

My problems with this situation are not against the students. My problems are with the decisions of the parents who put the students in this situation. Now, their children are bearing the cost of the parents choices.

It sounds as if the school has provided ample resources to pick up the slack of the home environments. The parents need to step up.

FTA: Speaking through a Spanish-English translator, parent Erika Soto said her third-grade daughter is "very smart, but because of this test, she is going to be labeled a failure. So how is she going to feel?

I don't know the details of this particular kid, but if a kid was born in the United States and cannot speak English by the third grade he/she IS a failure.

I am an Anerican. If I moved anywhere in the world that had a different language, I would expect to have to learn that language to function. Why is it different for people moving here? I wouldn't expect special treatment there, and they shouldn't expect it here.

This country must have a common offical language.

And as for those whining about not speaking Native American languages, move on. It's over. What happened wasn't necessarily right, but there's no going back.

We speak Engish here. Learn it or go home.

I don't understand the problem here.

If you don't understand the test because it's written in the language of the country you want to live in, then you fail.

Easy as can be.

I couldn't care less if people want to speak Spanish. Just make sure you can speak English too.

Welcome to the fucking country - now learn the language

Bill would raise school attendance age to 18

A new report said the state could sharply reduce high school dropout rates by requiring students to remain in school until they turn 18, but it would cost $200 million a year and add to shortages of classroom space and teachers.

State law currently allows students to drop out at age 16 with parental consent.

Editor Coment: I suspect this will turn out in a similar fashion to the "Bus in Troublemakers From Other Schools" program for ballet recitals.

We're paying for them one way or another. Whether it's educating them now or supporting them on welfare later.

Kids should have the option of continuing public education from the age of 15 years. Further, they should have the option to switch to trade schools at 15 years.

Kids who continue public school beyond 15 years should be required to maintain a 3.0 or higher GPA, else they get put on probation for a semester, and dropped if they don't pick up the slack.

This will prevent the artificial dumbing-down of classes for those who genuinely want to learn, while focusing education in a more intelligent manner.

Not every human has the capacity or inclination toward higher learning. All that you can accomplish by forcing these square pegs into your round hole is; a pissed-off peg and a sore hole.

Anyone with enough neurons to absorb the information can make a 3.0 GPA. If they don't, they have no interest in classes and can only hold others back.

Sorry, but if they can't keep up they'll have to take one for the team.

There are other education programs for people who are not capable of pulling a 3.0 in a modern high school, and those people are either not trying or they are in the wrong program.

Unfortunately, our society has been convinced that every child is capable of success in higher education.

Education should NEVER be a pass/fail game. Instead, it should be a best-fit game. That will always be easier and serve the students (and the entire community) better than the current 1500's style of education could ever do.

If you make me king, there will be no shame in getting bounced out of HS; it just means you can begin specializing early by switching to the public trades and industry programs where you're more likely to make head of your graduating class and have first-pick of some rather high-paying jobs.

Trust me. An electrician, welder, nurse, or plumber can make a heck of a lot of money.

I bet I can even talk a large community's businesses into partial/full financial backing for trade schools that will prepare students for positions at those businesses.

Step #1: Eliminate our failed US Department of Education.
Step #2: Make me king.
Step #5: Profit.

And that brings me to my other gripe; should abortion in the 324th trimester be legal?

Air crash compilation (video)

A tribute...to those fine pilots who gave their life for their passion! Awesome, wonderfull, touching compilation!
Click here to watch the video

Editor Coment: Holy fuck a B52 crashing (at 3:06) omfg thats freaky as hell!!!

Ok... now im even more scared of flying!

Whatching this it sends shivers down your spine knowing they all died and for what...

Helicopters and planes always look so powerful but when they crash they look completely helpless.

Man always wanted to fly. This is the price we have to pay.

The worst airshow crash was the sukhoi-27 crash... I'm still shocked by it... 84 people were killed.

There's a video showing everything (bodies and stuff). search "Sknyliv Su-27 crash" in youtube.

One of the saddest videos I've ever seen.

The song is "Our Farewell" from the dutch band Within Temptation.
