Overview
Genesis, the first book of the Pentateuch as well as the Christian Bible, was written by Moses to the people of Israel. It is a book of beginnings - not only of the world, but also of life as we know it today. It describes the beginning of human history, civilization, and salvation. Genesis also builds a solid foundation on which to build the rest of the Bible. In Genesis, we first learn about the nature of God as Creator, Judge and Redeemer. Genesis also teaches us the consequences of sin gives us the promise of salvation through covenants and a promised Messiah.
Genesis 1
In the world we see everyday around us, we are reminded of God. Everything was created by Him, visible and invisible, and reminds us of his glory. We therefore have no excuse for not knowing God (Ro 1:20, Ps 19:1-3). Everything that is begins with God and exists for His glory (Col 1:16-17, Rev 4:11). The only tool God needed for Creation was His Word (Ps 33:6-9), the same Word that works in our lives (1Th 2:13)! He formed the earth, skies and waters and filled them with living beings. Those who put their trust in Jesus Christ become part of a new creation (2Co 4:6, 5:17; Eph 2:8-10).
