Welcome to Project 64!

The goal of Project 64 is to preserve Commodore 64 related documents
in electronic text format that might otherwise cease to exist with the
rapid advancement of computer technology and declining interest in 8-
bit computers on the part of the general population. If you would like
to help by converting C64 related hardcopy documents to electronic
texts please contact the manager of Project 64, Cris Berneburg, at
74171.2136@compuserve.com.

Extensive efforts were made to preserve the contents of the original
document. However, certain portions, such as diagrams, program
listings, and indexes may have been either altered or sacrificed due
to the limitations of plain vanilla text. Diagrams may have been
eliminated where ASCII-art was not feasible. Program listings may be
missing display codes where substitutions were not possible. Tables
of contents and indexes may have been changed from page number
references to section number references. Please accept our apologies
for these limitations, alterations, and possible omissions.

Document names are limited to the 8.3 file convention of DOS. The
first characters of the file name are an abbreviation of the original
document name. The version number of the etext follows next. After
that a letter may appear to indicate the particular source of the
document. Finally, the document is given a .TXT extension.

The author(s) of the original document and members of Project 64 make
no representations about the accuracy or suitability of this material
for any purpose. This etext is provided "as-is". Please refer to the
warantee of the original document, if any, that may included in this
etext. No other warantees, express or implied, are made to you as to
the etext or any medium it may be on. Neither the author(s) nor the
members of Project 64 will assume liability for damages either from
the direct or indirect use of this etext or from the distribution of
or modification to this etext.

The Project 64 etext of the unofficial Submarine Commander
documentation. Converted to etext by The KrackMaster, supplied by
"Frank" Jeno E. Kontros <jeno@kontr.uzhgorod.ua>, the Non Stop
Cracker. Some of the information in this etext is assumed to be close
enough to the original hardcopy version until an original can be
converted, which is likely to be called SUBCO10B.TXT.

SUBCO10A.TXT, September 1996, etext #89.

The object of this game is to intercept the convey of ships and
destroy them.

         CONTROLS
         --------

            T
           F G
            V

C - Emergency dive
B - Emergency surface
<SPACE> - Fire torpedo
0-9 - Control speed

There are 3 different views you can see:
#1: Sonar
#2: Map
#3: Periscope

To get to the map view, hit "M". There should be a big land
mass in the middle of the screen. In the top left corner of the
screen, is a box with a cross inside it. It shows which way
you are moving. Under that, there is a compass which shows the
direction that you are traveling in (North, Northwest, Etc.).
Under that, it should say "TO:" and a number. That is your
number of torpedo's. Under that, it should say "FU:" and a
number. That is your amount of fuel. Under that, it should say
"CH:" and a number. Under that, it should say "SP:" and a
number which is your speed.
On the right side of the screen, on the top corner, there
should be a box. This box shows how low you are. Under that,
is a display of the time. Under that is your oxygen gauge. If
your oxygen runs out, you die, so you have to surface every so
often to get more air. Under that, it should say "CN:" and a
number. That is the amount of control damage done. Under that,
it should say "IN:" and a number. Under that, it should say,
"HL:" and a number. That is the amount of hull damage (body of
the sub). Under that, it should say "EN:" and a number. That
is the amount of engine damage.
In the middle of the screen, the "+" is you and the dots,
are the enemy convey.

To get to periscope view, hit "P". It will show you what is
on the surface of the water. You will only see a ship, if there
is 1 very close to you. You should use the periscope view to
aim a torpedo.

To get to the sonar view, hit "S". It will show you a
circle going outwards. When you see the circle hit a blinking
light, that means that the light is a ship. If the light is
very dim though, it may be a rock or something. In the upper
right hand corner, there should be a number. That is how many
enemy ships that you have destroyed. Under that it should say
"TO:" and a number. That is tonage (I have no idea what that
means!).

**NOTES** The enemy drops depth charges on you also, when
you are close to them. The closer you are to the surface when
they hit you, the more damage you get. To aim your torpedo's,
get into the periscope view ("P"), then use the F and G keys
until the ship is where you want it. Your torpedo's goes on an
angle. It takes some practice to get used to the way your
torpedo's move.

Well, that is about it for now. I will write a better
soft-doc when I have more time. Have fun.
