Here we will document our progression through all the international adoption red tape. Tune in each week for some sort of an update!
8/11/2003 Well, as was stated in the last update, we are at a complete standstill, until we come up with a lot of money. I do perodically call the adoption agency to make sure that this little boy is still available for adoption, and he still is. We just need to come up with all the money to make this happen. My heart breaks that we can't get him *tomorrow* and he has to go on in the orphanage all alone...all 3 of his brothers have already been adoped. He is the last of his sibling group. We want this child soooo very much.
7/21/2003 We did receive the info the adoption agency sent us. It was full of information and price tables. So basically we are at a complete stand still until we can raise the money to go forward with this. PLEASE HELP US, and HELP THIS POOR ORPHAN
7/07/2003 The Adoption agency confirmed that they indeed send out the applications and information packet. We have not received them to date. We did find out that since Dad served in the military, we can get his birth certificates for free. Now all mom has to do is find his military papers...We also found out that since we are AAA (auto club) members, (well dad is) His and our son's passport photo will be free. Mom's will cost $10. That is a great savings all around!! (we figured we saved $30 on passport photos, and $16 on birth certificate orders, for a grand total of $46 in savings!!) How's that for just making phone calls???!
7/02/2003 We received another picture of the child that we want to adopt. This one is a full length picture of him. He is so cute! He apears to be big (tall) for his age. We think the agency sent us the forms and applications. Mom also printed off a bunch of forms for reports that need to be done, and filled them out. They are just waiting to be sent out. The wheels will turn very slowly now until we get the money to make this happen. Please help us!
6/30/2003 We received a fax from the adoption agency that contained a medical report of the child we want to adopt. It also has a listing of the cost of everything. ($550 for the fingerprints, and one form, $10,000 internatioanl fees, $250 application fee, $250 processing fee, just to name a few of many) This is a very expensive process. Generally things move slowly until you choose a child then the process speeds up. Since we have already found a child things will move along quite quickly once we start the process. We can not start until we get the money raised. Then it can be completed in a matter of a few months. The wheels are turning very slowly until we can get all or at least most of the $35,000 that we need to adopt this child.
We are not allowed to post a picture of the child we are trying to adopt. He is not our child yet, and Eastern Europe now has strict rules against posting their children's pictures on the internet. I can tell you that we get a smile on our face and a warm and fuzzy feeling about him every time we talk about him or look at his one picture that we do have.
6/18/2003 We just found out from the adoption agency that ALL MONEY DONATIONS ARE TAX DEDUCTABLE. So that is great news for folks wanting to donate money to us so that we can adopt this child. The agency is also sending us more information on this child and the whole process.
6/12/2003 We called a listing agency that had a picture of a child that we are interested in. We found out that this child is still available for adoption. Mom almost cried when the agency told her that this child has an older brother that they do not know where he was placed, and this child's twin little brothers just came home with an American family. This poor beautiful child is left in the orphanage all alone now. The agency is sending us more information on this child. Please help us make this dream come true. Please send a dollar or two, or hundred of you are so inclined!
We are learning what all we have to do/pay inorder to adopt this child. It is a very expensive process. In the mean time we are checking out free web sites that teach the Russian language. Since this child is 5, we will have to learn the language inorder to communicate with him. Since we are trying to save everything we have, we will also check out the local public library for language tapes, etc. Take advantage of free resources whenever possible! That is why we have this on a free web site host!! No frills, low budget web site.
