| A lot has happened in the past week that has many people, me being one of them, justifiably concerned. In light of the attacks in both New York and in Washington D.C. I think it's safe to say that the human race is not as civilized as we once thought. So what drives our need to hate? I think it's many things first and foremost being ignorance. Another being that humans by nature are agressive animals. I used to think the world was, by nature, inherently good. However age, and the evening news has proven different time after time. Instinctively, we tend to lash out, to attack when something unpleasant happens to us. When someone cuts you off while driving down the freeway, is your first reaction to feel sympathy? Is it to think to yourself, "Well, maybe that person has just had a bad day.... I'm sure he didn't really mean to do that."? No. Our initial urge is to roll down the window, pop up the middle finger and let loose with some choice adjectives. Or , as we've seen in far to many cases, violence. It's in our nature to be agressive, and brutal because that's what eons of evolution (?) have taught us. Our canine teeth are not a mistake. They are there for a reason. So is our binocular vision. The "animal" within us is still there, and always will be. We have to work at being "good" not vise versa. Once you come to realize this, things become a little clearer as to the nature of humans. So, what can be done about it? Honestly, I dont have an answer. To further evolve, we as a species must realize that we're all equal regardless of race, creed, or color. Unfortunately, Im afraid that this will not happen any time soon. |
