| about me |
| So, who am I? My name is Mark and I live in a small town in rural Alabama. Not, I guess, what most would consider a hot-bed of Progressive Rock, but there are some of us around here. My love of music began early in life. My father is originally from Puerto Rico, and I learned a love of Salsa and Merengue from him. Salsa and Latin Jazz always appealed to me. The music is very dynamic, and full of emotion. Also it helped give me a sense of rhythm that would be very helpful later on, as I grew musically. Growing up in church also helped give me a sense of harmony. I love good vocal harmony in music, especially with bands like Kansas, Queen, Yes, and Spock's Beard. My uncle on my mothers side of the family, was a country music artist. He recorded several songs and I can fondly remember the family get togethers on July 4th including live country music. I thought that was the greatest thing. I'm mainly a bass player, but I also play some guitar and keyboard. Actually I started off as a guitarist. I took lessons at an early age and that taught me the basics of music. Later I heard bassists like Geddy Lee of Rush, and Chris Squire of Yes, and that influenced me to take up bass guitar. As I said before, I love all music. In addition to playing Progressive Rock and Metal, you might find me playing other styles including Fusion, New Age, Jazz and Bluegrass! One of the things, I think, that is vital to a musician is versatility. Being able to play a variety of styles can only help a person who aspires to attain any kind of success in music. So, that's a little insight into who I am. If you'd like, email me at the address above, and I'll be more than happy to return your mail! Musically yours... Mark |
