| Magical Myths 101 Lesson Nine |
| Last lesson in famous witches and wizards, then we move onto �magic�. Here we cover two famous wizards we know the most of or have heard most about lately. I give you Gandalf and Dumbledore!
Gandalf � he is considered an Istari, whom men called �wizards�. There wer five and each would wore a tall hat, long robes, black traveling boots and carried a staff. The Istari was an order and a brotherhood sent to Middle-earth from the Undying Lands to help fight the evil powers growing in Mortal lands. At first they came secretly and in humble form. Though five came, only three are mentioned in the histories that came to man. First named and most praised in the Fourth Age (The Third Age is when LORTs takes place.), was Gandalf the Grey, who by the Elves was called Mirthrandir. In the Undying Lands he was named Olorin and was accounted wisest of his people. (Saruman the White was also of the Order�but we know what happened to him..) Threw Gandalf�s wisdom, the free people of Middle-earth were guided to victory. Gandalf alone destroyed the Balrog of Moria, instigated the destruction of Smaug the Dragon, and the Battles of Five Armies and the Hornbury and Pelennor Fields were won with his guidance. His greatest discovery was the One Ring and his guiding of the Ringberer, a young Hobbit not unlike Harry, with no parents, to the place of its destruction. The Third Age ended with Gandalf�s departure to the Undying Lands as peace had returned to Middle-earth. |
| Albus (Percival Wulfric Brian) Dumbledore � widely considered being the greatest wizard of the current age. He is Headmaster of Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. Dumbledore is famous for defeating the dark wizard Grindelwald in 1944, also for discovering the twelve uses for dragon�s blood, and for his work on alchemy with his friend Nicolas Flamel. He is tall, thin, and very old with silver hair and beard which both are long enough to tuck into his belt. He wears long robes, and a purple cloak that swept the ground and high-heeled buckled boots. He has blue eyes and wears half-moon glasses, mostly for reading. His nose is long and crooked and looks to have been broken twice.
Dumbledore was ask to be Minister of Magic, sometime after 1971, but turned it down (which was when Fudge got the job). He is the one-wizard that Voldemort fears most. His presents at Hogwarts made the school a safe haven during the 1970s as Voldemort never tried to take the school. Dumbledore worked tireless to defeat Voldemort during those terrible years and now that Voldemort has risen again, Dumbledore is calling tougher his supporter to fight the Dark Lord, whom he calls, �Tom�. We can only guess at his age and birthday, approximate 150 years old being born possibly in 1840. He attended Hogwarts himself from the years, 1851 � 1858 in the House of Gryffindor. He was the Transfiguration teacher in 1940 and became Headmaster in 1971. His office is hidden with a stone gargoyle stone staircase leading the way, if you know the password. Dumbledore has a phoenix named Fawkes, a Pensieve, and the Sorting Hat is kept in his office along with the sword of Godric Gryffindor. Dumbledore has a brother name, Aberforth and a sister, Alba who is now in charge of OUR Hogwarts. His is known for his wiliness to give people a �second� chance�something that Professor Snape, Harry, and Hagrid can attest to. |
