Dreams make us of the bodily symbols because these are images reditly understood by the conscious mind, and because dream language, like waking language, draws many of its metaphors from material close at hand.
Expressions such as the "foot" of a hill, or the "arm" of the law, relate the body to outer world in the same way that a dream may use the symbol of the eyes to relate to the inner world of the 'soul'. Or use the metaphor of physical strength to denote the inner world or moral resolve.
Our dreaming language can be extremely creative with it body metaphors, these could also be a warning to attend to health problems, or as a way to express feelings about diet or exercise. |

Eyes are symbolic windows into the soul, and clues to the dreamer's state of spiritual heath. Bright eyes suggest a healthy inner life.
The heart carries archetypal significance as the center of emotional life, and in particular as the symbol of love. Blood can denote the pulsing life force, spilled blood its sacrifice and loss. Blood is the symbol of life, if you dream you are losing blood, you may be exhausted or may feel emotionally drained.
Hair in dreams symbolizes vanity. Early dream interpretations suggested that to dream of going bald could predict an imminent loss of the heart. A strong beard can stand for vitality, while a white one can signify age or wisdom.
An ear may be telling you to listen to what you are being told. The advice may be coming from people you know in waking life or from your own inner self. Perhaps you should listen to the voice of your conscience.
Fingers pointing at you can imply self-blame. Alternatively, it may point to indicate a direction. In this case, your dream may be solving problems for you and may be suggesting what you should do. Consider what aspect of yourself or your situation the dream has pointed out and give it you attention.
The foot, your dream may be telling you to be practical and sensible. "Keep your feet squarely on the ground", says your unconscious. Or you may be reconsidering your direction in life or questioning what your life is based on. Legs represent your ability to progress. If they are strong, it shows your self-confidence, but if they are weak, you may feel emotionally unsteady at the moment.
Dreaming of teeth falling out may represent insecurity. These dreams often occur at a time of transition between one phase of life and another. The dream could also highlight your worries about getting older. Animal teeth may represent aggressiveness, and false teeth may represent concern about your self-image.
A tongue may represent the things you say. You may need to express yourself or may have already said too much. Perhaps you've been saying something "tongue in cheek". |
|
|
|
Now, in your dream, you will not see a big tongue, but the tongue may be prominent in your dream, say you notice your tongue is swelled, so when you awake, you think about the way your tongue was in the dreamsame with the other symbols. When you dream, the message is the one symbol that sticks out most in the dream. For example, the dream may show many faceless people, but the ears are very well represented, so therefore, you may find the words on dreams with ears helpful in the interpretation of this particular dream. |
