A Birthday Wish for Karen
March, 2005

I watch you smile and see you laugh,
And then, I smile, too.
It warms my heart each moment that
Your happiness is true.

I searched myself, both in and out,
To give you something bold.
I wanted you to feel the warmth
My words have always told.

The only things that I could find
Were words I'd said before.
I hoped this time, however, they
Would mean a whole lot more.

I love you, and not just today.
I feel, I always have.
And when you read these words again,
You'll conquer all that's sad.

Today your smile means much more
Than days that have gone past,
Because that feeling in your heart
Will make that smile last.

Her birthday is on March 14th.  Every year, I try to devise a plan that will show her new insight into the way I feel about her.  The trouble is, there are only so many ways one can express his or her love.  The significance, then, has to be on something else.  That is why I wrote the lines you will read below.  I needed her to understand that my love for her was not rooted in the way I felt, however that is a good side effect.  Rather, it's rooted in the way she feels.  God, I love her!
