HERE IS OUR ADVICE ON NEW BABIES AND SIBLINGS....
when talking about the baby refer to it as "our" baby, try to take siblings to appointments-especially ultrasounds, there are also some wonderful children's book about a
new baby. Have a present in the hospital for siblings from the new baby. (fairy9272) My dd was 3 when my new baby came home. In the hospital my dd was thrilled to receive a gift from her new brother every time she came to visit. Since I had
a Csection, there was that separation anxiety for the both of us. But the gifts allowed her to go home with something in her hands. Also get out video tapes of the 1st born's arrival, baby pictures and baby clothes. Let her know that she will
always have a special place as Mommy's first baby. Then of course he/she needs the "I am a Big Brother/Sister" shirt! (ozip) With the new baby and siblings, I was truly lucky. My first was 2 year old when my 2nd was
born and was very gentle and patient and helpful. When my third was born my 2nd was 18 months and her big brother was a darn sight more interesting. Now (with them 4, 2 and 5 months) they take turns caring for the baby which is less helpful
than you'd think but their enthusiasm is admirable. Most of the time they play together and leave me and the baby to our own devices. (_karen)
