| Alchemy: Being the study of magical chemistry, mainly concerned with the transformation of base metals into gold, and the production of the Philosopher's Stone. Arithmancy: Being a study of the magical uses of numbers in order create results; the use of numbers for spell casting. Not to be confused with Numerology. Astrology: Being a study of the stars and planetary bodies for the purpose of preparing a horoscope. Also can be used as a form of Divination. Dark Arts: A wide term to designate those branches of magic considered evil or corrupt, such as Demonology, Manipulative Magic, Fatal Curses, and other such practices. Demonology: Being the research into the heirarchy of demons and other Dark Creatures, for the purposes of summoning such creatures to perform designated tasks. Considered a Dark Art, and forbidden. Divination: The magical practice of foreseeing or foretelling the future through various methods, such as Crystal Gazing, Tarot Reading, Tea Leaves, Spirit Walks and others. Rune Reading is considered a form a Divination, but should not be confused with Runic Studies. Herbology: being the study of the uses of magical plants and their care. Magizoology: being the study of various magical creatures throughout the world, their habits and habitats, as well as the sudry uses of these creatures in magic. Numerology: The use of sigificant numeric figures in calculating a horoscope. Usually used in conjunction with Astrology. Potions: The study of magical brews, tisanes and concoctions. Unlike alchemy, Potions have many purposes. Runic Studies: The use of various alphabets of runes in spells and in magical documentation, histories, and other non-magical areas. Transfiguration: being a study of transformative magics. |
