The Trayvon Martin Case

The case regarding Trayvon Martin was one of several recent nationwide news stories about a teenage black boy who was shot by a White-Hispanic, George Zimmerman. On a winter night in 2012, Zimmerman fatally shot Trayvon as he as walking home from a store. There is very little hard evidence regarding the case, but it is accepted that Zimmerman thought Trayvon looked suspicious, approached him, and ended up confronting him. The confrontation lead to a fight, which ended with Trayvon being shot multiple times in his chest. Following the death and a absolutely massive nationwide protest campaign, Zimmerman was tried for second degree manslaughter. However, because of the nature of the situation and the lack of evidence that could be presented in the case, Zimmerman ended up walking away from the trial unconvicted because the defense was able to claim the shooting occured in self defense. The failure of the prosecution to convict Zimmerman of anything lead to another huge outburst from the public and the media, but nothing more could be done. Case over.
