Toni Cocozza (Ian Hart), a sweet Scottish Italian club crooner is obsessed with Frank Sinatra and dreams of a big break in New York. In pursuit of fame, Cocozza falls in with a group of local gangsters who feed his dreams of international stardom. But there is a price to pay.

As he is drawn in by the glamour of the gangsters, in particular the Las Vegas stories of their leader Chisolm (Brian Cox), Toni begins to betray those who truly care most about him, including his best friend and accompanist Bill (Alun Armstrong) and the local girl he has fallen in love with, Irene (Kelly MacDonald).
