Interview #1: 

 

Ask a classmate the following questions. Create additional questions best suited to introduce them to the class for Speech #2. (As you are being interviewed, prepare any additional material that might not have otherwise occurred to you, to prepare to talk about yourself for Speech #1: Introducing Myself.). Use no more than 3 to 5 notecards for both speeches. Remember, you want to talk, not read.

A. Questions for Interview #1:

 1. What is your name?
 2. Where do you live?
 3. Where are you from?
 4. Why did you come to this country? (If relevant.)
 5. How many brothers and sisters do you have?
 6. Who do you live with?
 7. What are you studying here? (Describe the classes you are taking.)
 8. What do you like to do in your free time?
 9. What hobbies or special interests do you have?
10. What are some of your future plans and goals?
11. In your opinion, what is the most difficult profession in the world?
12. What is the most difficult thing you have ever done?
13. What was the easiest subject for you in high school?
14. Who is the most interesting person you have ever met?
15. What is the best age to get married?
16. What is the best thing that ever happened to you?
17. How do you think you will benefit from taking this course?

Prepare an Outline using the questions above to obtain information for Speech #1 and Speech #2. Tell the class the most interesting thing you learned about a classmate (and yourself!). Each speech should be approximately 3-5 minutes long with a maximum of 5 index cards for notes.


Outline Instructions:

In your study group, talk about a holiday in the United States or in any other country that is important or interesting to you. Then use the following questions to develop an outline. Prepare a talk on why you think this holiday is interesting. Use visual and/or auditory aids.

INTRODUCTION:

1. What is the name of the holiday that is most interesting to you?
2. On what day or days do people celebrate it?
3. Is it a religious holiday or a political holiday or some other kind of holiday?

BODY:
1. What do people do on this holiday?
Do they have a parade?
Do they dance in the streets?
Do they wear special clothes?
Do they cook a lot of food for friends and neighbors?

CONCLUSION:
1. Why is this holiday important?
