MATERIALS USED
The front is made from Western Red Cedar. As you can see the grain of the wood stands out quite distinctly.
The rest of the body and top was made of a mix of craft-board and Australian hardwood, with a plywood back.
The scrollwork is timber and cut out with a jig saw. The small turnings, of course, are made on the woodwork lathe:).
The drawers are fitted with metal drawer glides to allow easy moving and the drawer fronts have brass handles.
A mirror was fitted into the back to highlight the little ornaments she had collected over the years.
The cabinet is 48 inches wide and 15 inches deep. The height with the top structure is approximately 5 feet. The drawers are made to varying depths, to cater for the different sizes of boxes she kept threads, needles, etc in.
In the photo you will also be able to see some of her petit point work. They are small ones given to our daughter "Missy", as presents over the years.
This was a plus we found after the photo was taken. It was not planned that way:)
