Galindor is not your typical Gnome. In fact, he is somewhat more like his cousins, the dwarves. He loves to build things. Most of his free time is spend on designing new types of buildings, or new ways to construct buildings. In his hometown, he was both feared and respected for his "contraptions".
He was respected because many of his inventions helped the gnomes build better and better structures. He was instrumental in designing a new aqueduct that provided year-round irrigation for the crops and animals. He helped to design a new kind of mill, one that was powered by the wind, which helped to increase the amount of grain that could be processed and either sold or used within the community.
Yes, he was respected … but he was also feared. He was feared because many of his inventions, especially some of the large scale building development projects, even though eventually successful, kept the town clerics busy with casting healing spells and keeping a large supply of healing potions available. Of course, Galindor was always ready to provide the gold needed, and at one point he build a new cathedral for the local priesthood in payment for all their help and hard work.
Eventually though, there weren’t too many things that needed to be done anymore. And so, at the ripe age of 79, Professor Galindor decided to turn his sights towards the larger world. Already adept at engineering, and with a very large sum of gold with which to provide support, Galindor began to study the profession of the Illusionist, as well as that of a Bard/Professor. He studied wizardry with the local gnomes, many of whom traded their knowledge for having new laboratories built, or new meditation chambers constructed. One even traded Galindor the training necessary for 5th level in return for sound proofing certain areas of his keep.
Meanwhile, Galindor trained with any Bard he could talk into spending a week or two with him. He learned many of the ways of storytelling, singing, and instrumentation. He had decided that the best way to learn more was to be willing to teach, and so he wanted to be as good at giving out knowledge as he was absorbing it.
Eventually, Galindor’s quest for knowledge brought him to the valleys of the Thelly and Greyflood confluence. He spent several years based out of Pontylver, walking the city and learning all he could about the architecture and layout of the busy seaport. He spent many a day down by the docks, learning what he could about the construction of the ships, the docks, the launches, the warehouses, and the equipment used to load and unload the ships. Again, Galindor earned a reputation of both fear and respect. He was able to help make improvements to nearly every aspect of the seaport, but in the process he again helped to keep the local healers in business. Only once was a worker fatally wounded when something went wrong. Galindor spent days by the bedside of the stricken dock working, and sent messengers far and wide to find someone that could help. Eventually, the battle was lost. The family of the worker forgave Galindor, but he has never forgiven himself. As a result, he has shied away from actively participating in large construction projects, though he still spends many hours a day learning all he can about new construction techniques.
As an adventurer, Galindor has had a fair amount of success. He has just been elevated to the 9th level of Professorship when the fatal accident occurred. After that, Galindor spend more and more time out of the city, joining with bands of adventurers so that he could practice his other "rogue" skills, as well as lend a hand with his Illusions. Galindor usually looks for adventuring parties that will be exploring ruins or ancient underground complexes.
About two years ago, Galindor packed up his belongings and moved his base of operations northwest to the city of Kalstrand. Since then, he has been on several adventures (relatively local), has spent time learning about the city, and is a lecturer at several of the colleges. Since he spent most of his money on inventions and healing, Galindor has never built a keep. This is something he is planning to do in the near future, and so he is actively seeking for a band of adventures with whom he might try his hand at some "epic level" challenges.
