An illuminated 11th-century manuscript showing the
philosopher-physician Ibn Sina, also called Avicenna, visiting a pharmacy.
Avicenna (981-1037) lived most of his life in what is now Iran, where he
wrote his million-word medical encyclopedia, al-.Qanun, or the Canon.
Perspective was invented in the 15th century during the renaissance
by Italian and German artists. The image above is an picture from
four centuries earlier and is remarkable for how effectively the artist
has depicted the space, especially the arches and church in the background.
However, in some respects, he blew it big time!
