Captain Perspective's  Neat Trick #1

In order to get top dollar for your railroad when you eventually sell it, it is essential that the poles on the side of the tracks be space equally.  This can be easily accomplished by the following steps.

Step 1. Establish the viewer's eye level (draw a horizon.)
Step 2. Have your crew dig a very deep hole and erect your first pole.
Step 3. Throw a party for the crew.
Step 4. The next day, decide which in direction the poles should be lined up, draw a line from the bottom of yesterday's pole to a point (v.p.) on the horizon in that direction.

Step 5.  Dig a hole on that line at the distance from yesterday's pole that you want all the poles spaced and plant the second pole. If you want all your poles to appear to be the same height, (this is highly recommended for optimum resale profit) draw a line from the top of yesterday's pole to the v.p.and make sure the top of the second pole comes up to this line.
Knock off for the rest of the week, but be sure to stock up on party supplies for later.

Step 6. Saturday draw a line from the middle of the first pole to the v.p..  Don't use a ruler to find the midpoint of the first pole; guess at it.  You can guess as accurately as you can measure if you're really careful and haven't been partying too much.  Notice that this line bisects the second pole at its mid-point!
Step 7. Now here's the tricky part, so listen up, mens.  I'm only going to tell you once; Draw a line from the top of the first pole (A) through the mid-point of the second pole extending past it until it intersects with the ground line (C).
Step 8.  Leisure activities for the rest of the day. Watch a video with the crew. I recommend "Ferris Bueler's Day Off" if you haven't seen it.  If you have, then rent Luis Bunel and Salvador Dali's "Le Chien Andalu."  It's a hoot!
Step 9     On Monday, have your workers dig another hole at the spot (C) the line touched the ground.  When the third pole is planted in the hole, it will appear to be the same distance from pole #2 as pole #2 is from the first pole.
Step 10  PAAAARRRTTYYY!!!!!!
Step11.If you want more poles, (yes, you do!) continue drawing lines from the tops of the second last poles through the mid-points of the last poles and to find the spot for the next pole to be planted.  You can have your sweaty crew continue this routine until they disappear into the horizon (v.p.).  However, be alert for unionizing activities as soon as they are out of earshot.
