LITERATURE REVIEW EXERCISE (35 points) The purpose of this assignment is to help familiarize you with the resources available to you in the GSDMSF library, and to help inform other students in the class of useful resources. TASK Select a book or journal issue (have a photocopy) from the library or class reserve that is relevant to nursing (occupational health, public health nursing and school health nursing). In the case of symposium proceedings with multiple chapters written by different authors, at your option you may focus on a single chapter. Due to their ephemeral nature, web-only publications can be reviewed only with the approval of the instructor. You are urged to read the reviews from past years posted on the web site. Re-reviews of books and journals are possible, especially if you find that previous reviews incorporated errors and omissions or if your perspective on the utility of the resource is different than the initial review. PRODUCTS A one-page review of the journal or book should be prepared that includes the following: Your name The title and year of publication of the book or journal Strong points of the publication – was there information you found interesting or useful? Was it easy to read and understand? Were there useful graphical representations or tables? Weak points of the publication – which sections were irrelevant to your interests or, worse yet, were obsolete or inaccurate? Overall evaluation – would you recommend this publication to other students? If so, for which purposes would it be particularly useful? This one-page review will be posted on the class web site for use by other students. A five-minute oral report to the class focusing on your overall evaluation of the publication.
