A Trip to Koorg (Karnatka).

Again this was the same auspicious day of "Republic Day" and this time we went to another place to have some fun on the weekend. We had a smaller group this time of six people. The place was "Koorg District" in the evergreen land of Karnatka.
We started on 24th night at around 9:30 PM from our hostel since we had a bus at 11:00 PM. Bus journey was nice and after seven hrs. journey we reached there to a town called Madikeri at 6:00 AM in the morning. Temperature was quite low at that time (I hope below 10 degree C) and we hadnt booked the hotel already. So, we went in the search of hotel in that cold and after visiting two or three we found one hotel of Karnatka Govt., which was good. Everyone got fresh & took bath and got ready, and then we started our tour.
Our first job was to book the bus tickets for return journey. After doing that we took a local private bus which dropped us to "Bhagamandala". The raods were worth enjoying as we past through Ghat Section. This place is 24 Km away from Madikeri and famous for the Sangam of three rivers called Cauvery, Kannike & Sujyothi. Apart form this there is a shrine of Lord Bhagandeshwara. This Bhagandeshwara temple is made in Kerala style at the bank of Sangam.
Since the water in these rivers was very less it was almost like three drains.
By the time we visit these places the Sun was above our heads and temperature was at its maximum. We again took local private bus from Bhagmandala to "Talcauvery" which is 8 Km away from Bhagmandla. The roads were small and zigzag and on the both sides there were beautiful coffee plants.
Talcauvery is the origin of river Cauvery. There is a temple of Cauvery and a small hill which is called "Brahmagiri". We climbed up 360 steps and the view of Talcauvery from that small hill was excellent. But, the Sun was too bright and we were tired too. Otherwise we could have tried for a small trekk there.
The time was 2:30 PM and we planned to go back to Madikeri. we took the same vehicle and came back to Madikeri. There was too much of crowd in the vehicle this time and we were crushed in that completely. It was suffocating too. It took longer time and we came back to Madikeri at around 5:00 PM.  After having some snacks and juice etc. we came to a park called "RajaSeat" just near our hotel in madikeri. We missed sunset from that place due to some clouds. There is a small toy train running on deisel, we board in that and had a lot of fun. Now it was night so, we searched for a restaurant took dinner and came back to the hotel and sleep there peacefully.
Next day was the red letter day of 26th Jan. In the morning it was too nice to see Madikeri dist. from our hotel since it was on the hill top and we could view the whole dist. beautifully. After getting ready we went to the bus stand and hired a taxi for the whole day.
Now, our first destinantion was "Cauvery NisargaDhama". It is about 10 Kms from Madikeri. It is actually a big bamboo jungle. There are a few "machans" and swings also. All this reminded me my childhood days. There are a few deers and elephants also. We had a very nice ride over elphant. While walking its backbone and muscles were going up and down and it seemed to us as if we were really dancing on its back. It was a 32 yrs old tusker named Gopi.  Then as usual we went for baoting in that place itself. Boating is always a very good fun.
Now, next denstination was "Harangi Dam". It took about 40 min. for us to reach there from Nisargadhama by taxi. There was almost no water in this dam. This dam is meant for irrigation, there is no hydel power station.
After enjoying dam we went to a colony of Tibeteans near Kushalnagar. A lot of Tibeteans are residing in that colony and there is a big Golden Temple also. There is a big golden statue of Lord Buddha. It is a nice temple which is made recently. The paintings on walls is fascinating and worth seeing.
Our next station was "Dubare Forest". Dubare forest is situated at the bank of river Cauvery. There was not much water in Cauvery, so, we crossed the river without any boat. It was really a great adventure. The rocks in water were covered by red fungi which is very rare. A fantastic fractal structure of fungi could be seen in those rocks.  At the other side of river there was a thick forest which is known as "Dubare Forest". We entered in that jungle and found a huge wild tusker.
At 5:00 PM we were back to Madikeri, where we rested in a restaurant for some time and then we went to see "Abby Falls" which is 9 Kms from Madikeri. It is a good fall, but, people have made it a mess by throwing garbage here and there. The stagnant water at the bottom of fall was also not very clean. There is a hanging bridge from which one can have a full view of falls.
Next was the temple of "Omkareshwara Mahadev". The time was 7:00 PM, and we searched for a good restaurant for dinner, and it was really a good one. Our return bus was at 10:30 PM and we reached back to our Heaven (Raman Research Institute) on 27th Jan Monday at 5:30 AM.
