This California location was designated a National Monument in January 1908. It is renowned for the beauty and variety of its spring wildflowers. Located in the Gabilian Mountains east of Salinas Valley are the remains of an ancient volcano with monoliths, spires, and canyons with a million year history of erosion, faulting and tectonic plate movement; making this a land of diverse wildlands.
