I've Been Meaning ...

                        by Thomas Bridgeman

I've been meaning to contact you for some time,
Though first I had to start and finish this rhyme.
I put it on a shelf and tucked it away
And I didn't get back to it until today.
I've been putting it off for quite a while,
As that seems to be the norm, my unshakable style.
At one point, I forgot where it was located
Until I received a notice demanding that the premises be vacated.
As I was packing my things piece by piece,
I found it stuffed in a file with my lease.
So here I sit, writing once again.
I'll get back to my packing, but don't know when.
I noticed that my plants are dead or dying and I'm filled with sorrow;
Maybe I'll water them today or tomorrow.
I have a date at six and must not be late.
Oh dear, how time flies, it's already eight.
Well I guess I better make dinner.
I've been meaning to eat, as I'm getting thinner.
I'll just get to everything sometime later,
As I finally admit that I'm a procrastinator.
