Installing a Head Gasket

Tools needed are:
1/2" drive deep 17mm socket
3/8" drive 10mm socket
3/8" drive 12mm socket
14mm wrench
6"extention 3/8 drive
(1)Flat head and phillips screwdrivers
Cresent wrench or vise grips

First take the timing belt cover off. It has 4 10mm bolts that hold it on. Once you have that done then pull it off and you will see the cam sprocket. Just below the cam sprocket there is a 14mm bolt that hold the tensioner wheel in place. just loosen it don't take the bolt all the way out. It is also connected with a spring that is located right behind the belt. just take the flat head and disconnect it from the hook that it is on.
Once you have done that and lossed that 14mm bolt for the tensioner then belt should be loose. Then just slide the belt off the sprocket.

Drain your coolant. Disconnect the upper coolant hose from either the radiator end or the coolant housing, Then just below the thermostat housing there is another small hose. Disconnect that.
While you are on that side then take off the throttle boot and disconnect all the sensors that are over there. It should be about 6 sensors to disconnect(3 under the throttle boot and 3 right where the distributor is). One of the sensor conections i talk about is the distributor connection.
once you have done that, Then disconnect the throttle boot. You don't have to take the I/C pipe out just move it out of the way.Next go behind the intake and you should see 3 bolts that hold the vacuum rail on. 1 by the vacuum hoses on the throttle the other 2 are were the upper and lower intake are bolted together.
Only take the hoses that are connected to the intake off. DO NOT DISCONNECT FROM THE RAIL!!

Next take the distibutor cap off with the wires still affixed to it. Just disconnect the coil wire .
Then pull the wires off the plugs.

Next take the EGR pipe loose that is located on the side of the manifold
Next take the manifold loose from the head. there are 6 bolts that hold the manifold to the head.
Next take the manifld and just slide it back a little. Oh there is also a plate on the underside of the turbo that is a 12mm.

After that now take the valve cover off. Once off you will see 10 17mm bolts that hold the head on.
On the back side of the intake there is a braket connected to the intake. 2 14mm nuts. once you lift the head and is basically at its point of
coming out. then look behind the head and there is one bolt that hold the oil feed line. Don't forget to loosen the feed line on the turbo itself.
Next take the coolant line that is located in the middle of the intake on the bottom side of the intake.

The head should come off now..
