The customs clerk stamped Cam's passport, welcomed him to New Zealand and Cam finished walking through the area. He slung his bag over his shoulder and waited for Hunter. The flight had been good, but unfortunately the in-flight movies hadn't been. Cam wasn't a huge Adam Sandler fan so he had slept a lot of the way; unfortunately, Hunter was and had been enjoying the first movie much to Cam's dismay. He had woken about an hour out of Wellington airport to find Hunter asleep next to him and he had just shaken his head, obviously the movies had been boring after a while. Just then, Hunter cleared customs and came over to stand next to him, a tiny smile on his face.
"Well, what now oh wise one?" Cam shook his head and pushed his glasses up on his nose and began to walk towards the waiting taxis, Hunter naturally falling into step beside him.
"Well, the instructions that Sensei Laglia gave Dad were that we take a taxi to the edge of the city and then streak about twenty kilometers into the south west, and then hang a 90 degree turn and head into the mountains. The Fire Ninja Academy is on the slopes of New Zealand's most active volcano, it's on Mount Ruapheu." Hunter raised an eyebrow and grinned at Cam as they walked towards the taxis.
"Now that's the most appropriate place for an Academy that I've ever heard of." Cam just chuckled as they loaded their packs into the boot of the taxi and climbed in the back.
"Tell me about it." Shaking his head, Hunter sat next to Cam in the back seat and relaxed against the back seat.
"This is going to be interesting."
As soon as the taxi had left them near the out skirts of the large city, the two of them had orientated themselves and with a shared grin, they began streaking towards the rendezvous that had been arranged with the Fire Ninjas before they had left Blue Bay Harbor. The great thing about streaking was that it got them to where they wanted to go so fast, that they made it to the location where they were meeting the Fire Ninjas in record time. They stopped at the edge of a clearing and walked out into the middle of it. There were some rocks and small shrubs scattered around and they walked slowly over to them. Hunter slung his pack off to sit it on the ground and leaned against a rock, folding his arms, his expression bemused.
"What time are they supposed to meet us here?" Cam put his pack down next to Hunter's and looked around as he answered absently.
"Apparently they were going to watch for our arrival. I guess they'll…" whatever Cam was going to say was lost as suddenly they were surrounded by a dozen Ninjas in uniforms. The first thing that they both noticed was that Ninjas' uniforms were exactly the same of their own academies except they had white and light blue stripes on them and that their faces were covered in Ninja tradition. Suddenly, the Ninjas took up fighting stances. Hunter looked at Cam in confusion and Cam just shrugged. He took a hesitant step forward.
"Hi, are you from the Fire Academy? We're from..." He didn't even get that far as suddenly one of the Ninjas sprang forward and with a push of his hand, had sent Cam flying backwards into Hunter with a blast of ice cold air. Hunter caught Cam by reflex.
"Fire scum! We don't want your type around here." Hunter helped him up and looked at him.
"You okay?" Cam nodded; frowning as he looked at the Ninjas surrounding them.
"Somehow I don't think these are the Fire Ninjas we're waiting for."
"You think." Hunter sarcastic when they were under threat was a dangerous combination. Nodding, they quickly flicked their wrists and moments later were in their ninja training gear from their days as Rangers, gear they felt the most comfortable fighting in. They took up fighting stances side by side, backs to each other, in such a familiar pattern that they never even discussed it anymore. Cam frowned at the Ice Ninjas.
"You don't want to do this; we're here to help you!"
"Liar! Attack!" The Ice Ninjas sprang at them and Cam and Hunter braced themselves, not wanting to morph unless they had no other choice. They wanted to keep their Ranger Powers a secret while they were here. They quickly fell into a familiar pattern, blocking attacks and watching each other's backs. The Ice Ninjas managed to get in the odd blow; there were a dozen of them after all. Cam ducked under a swung fist, blocking with his left arm. He could sense Hunter fighting behind him and didn't worry about him for the moment; Hunter was one person that could defiantely take care of himself. He struck out with his own fist, connecting with the chest of someone and sending them flying. They kept this up for a few intense minutes, defending themselves as best they could given the circumstances and not wanting to injure the very people they were here to help. After a few moments though suddenly there was a loud explosion and a blast of hot air blew them all off their feet. Cam and Hunter found themselves thrown backwards towards their backpacks. The attacking Ice Ninjas were blown back towards the trees. Suddenly six Ninjas stood in front of Hunter and Cam. Their uniforms were the same as the others, except instead of white strips they had crimson and orange stripes down the side. The Ice Ninjas struggled to their feet and stared at the six Fire Ninjas. The lead Fire Ninja pointed to Cam and Hunter, who were struggling to their feet.
"These are the two emissaries from the Wind and Thunder Academy. How dare you attack them! They are here at our Senseis' request!" The Ice Ninjas looked at one another and the lead Ice Ninja suddenly nodded.
"Understood Fire Ninja. We will finish this another time." And with that, they were gone. The lead Fire Ninja turned at looked at Cam and Hunter, reaching up and removing his mask, he suddenly grinned at the two of them.
"Welcome to New Zealand and the Fire Ninja Academy." Hunter dusted himself off and helped Cam to his feet and looked at the ninja.
"Nice warm welcome you have there." Cam just looked at him and the two of them suddenly laughed. This trip was certainly off to a good start.
