Blake's bike crashed through the field of riders, tossing the virtual race participants from their bikes in an effort to gain ground. Cam looked on, amused by his disregard for the rules of the sport. "I guess that explains your accident," he remarked.
Blake snickered. "Dude, if you think your game performance has anything to do with the way you ride, we'd never let you on a bike."
"You!" Hunter's eyes narrowed as he realized who he was talking to. "You should not leave messages, ever!"
"Telling you to call me back got old," Cam said with a shrug. "You should answer your phone."
"To talk to someone who's leaving the country?" Hunter's tone was dangerous, and it was clear that he didn't find the attempt at nonchalance funny. "What's the point?"
Cam ignored the warning shot and teased, "Might be your last chance."
"Only if I'm lucky!" Hunter fumed.
"Cam, you lose the points you got for bringing food when you antagonize someone I have to live with," Blake informed him.
Confronted with the image of a cat sitting at his computer, Cam walked over to see what she was looking at. "Skritches?" he asked suspiciously. "What are we doing?"
The cat craned her neck to glare balefully up at him. "WE are slacking instead of trying to solve my problem. You can't make me feel guilty for surfing the internet when you were having Chinese with your friends."
"Wait a minute." Hunter managed to pull off the sound of smug disbelief very convincingly. "You have students missing from the Wind Academy and you didn't even notice?"
"Just the one," Cam replied with a sigh. "I hope. I'm going to do a head count to make sure."
There was a pause. "And... your student was a cat."
"Dustin's student," Cam corrected without thinking.
He could hear Hunter's smirk. "Oh, you're blaming Dustin now?"
"Well," Cam said defensively. "Everyone else does."
"Only 'cause you're too slick to let them pin stuff on you," Hunter retorted.
