Welcome to the Website of Powell River Live Poets Guild, a poets society started in the beautiful town of Powell River. Powell River is on the Sunshine Coast in British Columbia, Canada.
If you are here at the PRLPG website, we're going to assume it's because you already know a little bit about us. If that is not the case, please direct your attention to the links at your right, and click "About Us" to get the full story. Otherwise, welcome to the site and enjoy your stay (well, that goes for everyone).
PRLPG's Current Events
The International Peace Poem Project
The International Peace Poem started on Maui in 1996, and is on the way to becoming the world’s largest poem. Its 70,000+ lines, written mainly by youth, describe love, understanding and hope.
The Powell River Live Poets’ Guild brought the Peace Poem scroll to Powell River and hosted a contest for youth to age 18 last year, and the tradition continues in 2009. The 2008 contest was a smashing success, and resulted in the publishing of a book of the children's poems. The book, Powell River International Peace Poem Anthology 2008: Friendship Never Ends, is available for sale at Lulu.com.

Spoken Word
Changed venue!
The PR LPG continues to host Spoken Word, but not weekly anymore. Dates and times subject to change and the most recent times can be found in the events calendar of Immanence magazine, or by calling 604.483.4940. The two main venues for Spoken Word are Breakwater Books (only on Saturdays, at 4:30) and McKinney's Pub in the Poets' Corner.
The PR LPG also does Challenge Poems! Meaning a challenge is set at one meeting and poems that are written based around that challenge topic are read at the next meeting. You may write your own poems for Spoken Word or bring ones you want to share -- PR LPG encourages community creativity and loves to hear new works from new poets. We also have an online forum, in case you miss the real thing but still want to connect with us.
Even if you have nothing to share, come and listen to local poets and artists read their stuff -- and pet Major, our mascot. It's a Powell River event you don't want to miss!
