Big things in life come in small packages,
believe it or not! Priyanshu Roy ,
a nine grader at Apeejay School (Saket), Delhi lives by the
simple dictum "I can do it". If you look at his many stupendous
achievements, you have to admit the boy has the makings of a
multi-faceted genius.
Achievements At an age when most people are up to only
pranks, Priyanshu has his eyes trained on Silicon Valley. At 11
years of age, he is probably the youngest Microsoft Certified
Systems Engineer (MCSE) in the world. Within a month of having done
so, he crossed another milestone by becoming a Cisco Certified
Network Associate (CCNA) on the 27th July, 2000.
He is also the youngest classical guitarist in
the world (according to the Limca Book of Records). His first
performance on the Mohan Veena at the age of three years three
months is evidence enough of the tremendous promise of this gifted
young lad. He has a fifth year senior diploma in instrumental music
from Allahabad Prayag Samiti, and a second year vocal certificate
from Gandharva Mahavidyalaya.
Priyanshu is also a budding writer. His
anthology of poems Hamari Teraha
Kavitayen was released by Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on
the 1st of January 2000.
The Person Behind The
Achievements
With an
unassuming demeanour, Priyanshu could very well pass for just
another kid. But his confidence and conviction of spirit and purpose
set him apart. His incredible journey of feats began his parents
noticed his amazingly sharp memory. Dad Parvin Kumar thought of
music as the ideal medium for the development of his son's gift.
Priyanshu began training in the Mohan
Veena. He has since performed at various auditoriums and in
television shows.
His foray into the field of computers began
with a free ship at New Technology Group (NTG) where he completed
the Microsoft Certified Professional (MCP) course on 31st March, the
MCSE on 29th June 2000 and immediately after, the CCNA.
The Balancing
Act On being asked how he manages his
time between his three main areas of interest, he says, "I divide my
time but at times I have to concentrate extra on one area such as
studies during exams or music before a performance". Exceptional
even in school, Priyanshu was granted a double promotion from sixth
to eighth.
The Kid in Him Not one to miss out on the joys of childhood,
Priyanshu loves likes watching cartoons, playing with friends,
cycling and reading comics. During his spare time he surfs the
Internet. An ardent fan of Chris Cairns, Vishwanathan Anand and
Leander Paes, Priyanshu also indulges in his favourite sports -
chess and cricket. He keenly follows political and legal happenings
and discusses them with his father.
"Life should be enjoyed fully, and fun for me
lies in constantly knowing more and more about things", he says, and
that sums up this child prodigy. Priyanshu gives due credit to his
parents for their role in developing his talents and helping him
acquire various skills.
All That The Future May Hold Priyanshu does not believe in resting on past
laurels. Apart from currently working on his website www.cuite-commerce.com,
he is also developing a raga - Peelii (which stands for peace,
education, environment, love, integrity and independence). He would
also like to continue pursuing advanced courses in computers such as
the Cisco Certified Internet Engineer and the Cisco Certified
Network Programmer. The unavailability of study material for these
two courses and the need to attend regular school put a few
temporary hurdles in the path of this youngster who aspires to
become Bill Gates II.
Priyanshu is also presently rallying for a
relaxation of the CBSE age bar, which would enable him to enrol into
class X and utilise the saved period for research and development in
the field of computers.
It's certainly a long road ahead for this
wonder kid but with dreams in his heart, plans in his head, and a
conviction in himself, the journey is destined to be a memorable
one.
