| Added a 12vdc/120vac modified sine wave inverter in the trunk area. Prius 12vdc system feeds the inverter through a 100 amp dc rated fuse located on the battery plastic shield. From there the power feed runs to the dc rated breaker mounted next to the inverter. The inverter isn't directly connected to the breaker, I used a pair of Anderson connectors in between to allow quick connection of an 'extension' cable, which will be used for jump starting and other purposes. Theory of Operation: The 12v system battery is maintained at approximately 13.8v by the DC/DC converter after the Prius has been 'started', drawing from the NiMH traction pack. When the pack runs down, the ICE is automatically started to recharge it. Thus the car operates as a low emission, quiet, auto-start, low maintenance generator. |
