| Title: Timeless Author: Priscilla Chapter 5: The Morning After Emma turned over in bed and expected to meet soft skin; instead she felt cold sheets, empty bed where Johnny should have been, but wasnt. God shed slept with Johnny Depp. Made love to him. Her brain mocked her with flashes of the night before. Of Johnny bringing her blinding pleasure with each of his powerful thrusts. It made her blush and cringe at the same time. The relationship that had taken half of her life to build had been destroyed because she couldnt keep her legs closed long enough to say no. The flagrant aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted into the room followed by the sound of a cupboard being closed. So he was still in the house, just not in bed with her. Well what the hell did she want anyway? Declarations of love? They were both consulting adults that needed each other and in turn had had sex. It was an appropriate ending to a magical experience, she guessed. How many women would give up anything to have Johnny Depp for a night? Well it was over; today they flew back to their respective lives. He to his career as the amazing actor who lives in Paris and she to her life as Editor and Chief of Vogue Magazine. What was she thinking? I was thinking that it hurts to have him and then have let him go. Emma thought as she picked up her robe and walked to the kitchen. The smell of coffee was still strong, but the kitchen was deserted. The back door was open though, so she made her way over to it and peered out. Of course he would be up earlier than her, he did have to take care of his baby. Johnny loved that child fiercely, so much that he probably felt guilty because he hadnt tucked her in last night and was making up for it now. Emma smiled as she made her way to the giggling duo, already covered in sand at 7 in the morning. Johnny stopped tickling Lilly-Rose immediately after hed spotted Emma, a sharks grin garnering his features. Hey. Was all Emma managed to say against the knot in her throat as she sat beside him in the sand and ruffled his little girls hair. She could feel his dark eyes burning a hole through her but she wasnt sure it she wanted to meet his eyes yet. She was afraid shed find embarrassment or regret in them and she wasnt ready for that. You have to talk to me sometime, Em. We might as well start now. Johnny said brushing stray strands of blonde hair behind her ears. Did last night change everything? I-I mean, (oh God, she was stuttering...) I knew that it would change some things between, but not everything right? The core of us? Emma asked finally looking into his eyes. Johnny was taken aback at the emotion he saw raging in her blue orbs. No, not everything. Were still friends. Youre still my best friend, the only person I know I can trust with my worst and my best. The only thing is, Ill never be able to look at you and say thats my little sister anymore because last night made it obvious youre all woman. Were on a different level now, but I dont regret anything about last night. He said quietly, calmly, as if hed thought about how he felt for a while. Me too. Emma managed a wry smile to give him and he returned it, draping his left arm around her shoulders. The two watched Lilly-Rose play in the sand, and the waves lapping each other, then got up to start packing up for their trip back home. ************** The day had turned out to be a hectic one. Packing seemed to go by in a flurry of movements. Traffic made getting to the airport take way longer than usual. They made it to the plane 5 minutes before it was scheduled to take off, which the pilot was not too happy about. They were flying from St. Croix to JFK airport in NY. Emma would get off there and Johnny would take another flight back to Paris. His world, his life, which was so far away from hers. Tears threatened to spill over but Emma blinked them back. A few hours later their plane touched down at JFK and Emmas heart lurched. Shed been dreading this. She hated goodbyes with a passion. They got their luggage and Emma walked Johnny and Lilly-Rose down the long corridor that the airport staff had for celebrities. Johnny hadnt wanted it, but the airport staff had insisted it was for his safety, Emma had insisted that he take it for his safety and Lilly-Rose's, so hed begrudgingly agreed. Minutes later they stood outside the entrance to the plane, Johnny had his right arm around her waist pulling her to him as he kissed her forehead. Silent tears, made their way down her cheeks. Johnny noticed. Hey, whats up with that uh? This isnt goodbye darlin, this is Ill see you soon. Ok? He asked cupping her face in his palm. Emma nodded and did her best to smile. She said goodbye to Lilly-Rose and gave Johnny one last hug before letting him walk to the plane. The ride from the airport was a wet one, mainly because Emma couldnt stop the tears. This is why last night should not have happened! This is why! She barely made it upstairs to her bedroom before collapsing on her bed. Title: Timeless Author: Priscilla Chapter 6: Indecisions THREE WEEKS LATER........ What a day! Three meetings back-to-back, she had a luncheon coming up in an hour and her desk had a million documents waiting for her signature. Emma's head was throbbing, the early signs of a killer migraine biting at her temples. She put the pen she'd been holding for the past fifteen minutes down and cracked her knuckles. Maybe I should have thought better about leaving for two months.... She thought rubbing at the aching muscles in her neck. The com-unit on her desk beeped, announcing a message from her secretary. "Yes, Maria?" Emma asked warily. "Emma, I have Johnny on line one for you. Can I put him through?" "Sure, Maria. Thank you." A couple of minutes passed as she stared at the glowing red light on her phone. Sighing, she clicked on the line. "Hello?" "Emma Hi! How are you?" Johnny sounded excited to hear from her, so that was good, right? Emma couldn't stop the smile at spread across her features. "Hey you! I'm having a horrible day but other than that I'm doing all right. What's up?" She asked curious as to why he was calling. Last she'd heard he was off filming another brilliant movie. "Horrible day huh? Well maybe my news will help you feel a little better." "Yeah? Do tell." Ok so now she was the excited one. "Well I'm set to start filming "Red" in a couple of days. It takes place in New York. So how about I bring the girls down and we get together?" Emma smiled wickedly on the other line. It felt like it'd been so long since she'd seen Lilly-Rose. "Sounds great! Wait a minute, girls? As in plural?" Johnny chuckled softly at Emma's agitated state. He could already see her getting red in the face. "Yeah plural. I'm bringing Elyse and Lilly-Rose, if that's ok with you?" So those stories in the news had been accurate. He was dating someone new and you would have known that had you not been avoiding calling him for two and a half weeks. Yeah, like he'd really come to New York just to film a movie and see you. "Emma? What do you say?" Johnny's eyebrows had creased together in thought. She'd gotten really quiet all of a sudden. "Huh? Oh, yeah. When are you coming?" "Uh, I was thinking we'd get there sometime tomorrow afternoon? Like 7 p.m. or something." "Sounds great." Emma said as enthusiastically as possible when you feel like crap. God, this was going to be hell on wheels. "Ok, its set then. Listen, I gotta go darlin. I'll talk to you soon ok? Love you." "Yeah bye." Emma hung up the phone numbly. He'd said I love you, why can't you be content with that? Because he'd meant it as a term of endearment between friends. He loved her, just not the way she wanted him to. And now she'd agreed to spend time with the new woman in his life. What was her name? Elyse. What the hell kind of name is Elyse anyway? She thought about catching a bite to eat before her next meeting and immediately banished the thought. Her stomach was killing her and the mere thought of food seemed to make it worse. Hadn't been able to hold down much of anything for days, and sometimes she would wake up feeling nauseous. Maybe she should go see a doctor? Emma buzzed Maria to set it up. "Yes, Emma?" "Maria can you please call Dr. Nordstrom and set me up an appointment as soon as possible?" "Sure, are you feeling ok? You sound horrible." "Gee thanks, but you're right. My stomach's been killing me for days." "You're not pregnant are you?" Maria asked jokingly. But Emma didn't see much to laugh about. A bolt of electricity went down her spine. She tried to remember the next time she should get her period, but couldn't. No way. NO WAY. "Are you crazy woman? After seeing what you go through I'd be celebate for the rest of my life. Besides who'd be the father? My imaginary friend?" Emma hoped she at least sounded nonchalant; inside she was full of knots. Maria laughed on the other end and Emma sighed. "OK I'll call and get you all set." "Thanks Maria." Emma buried herself in work for the rest of the day, trying to banish the bad thoughts away. She'd never been an overly religious person, but that night Emma found herself praying with everything in her being that she was not pregnant with Johnny's child. |
