Chapter 7

Cousins and relatives of every kind were piling into the house. Unfortunately for me, the Williams's were about to do a barbeque, and I am vegetarian. Oh well, there was plenty of salad to be had. I felt a tug on my leg. I looked down. Some cute five year old kid wanted something. I smiled.

"Yes?"

"Can you get that for me?" He asked. He pointed a chubby finger at the ketchup that was on a table behind me, obviously too high for him to reach.

"The ketchup?" I asked. He nodded.

"Do you need a hand?" I asked him. He shook his head no. Five year olds are quite capable you know. I grinned and handed him the bottle. He squirted it onto his hamburger, and then looked up at me.

"Wanna see our tent?" He asked

"Sure!" I answered.

He grabbed my hand and dragged me inside. His other hand had only a really tight grip on his paper plate and hamburger. I kept watching it, praying that it wouldn't be dropped. I found myself led to the basement, where a tent made of chairs and old blankets had been built. Now you must understand that, to small children, tents, forts, hideouts, tree houses, and playhouses are magical places. Anything can and will happen there you know. He led me under the nearest chair. I had to awkwardly crouch down, but I didn't mind.

"This is my new friend!" He announced. I smiled.

"I'm Jo." I said. The little boy grinned.

"I know," He said. "You work for uncle Steve! I'm Jimmy. And this is Stephanie..." He pointed to a girl of about 6 or 7. "...and that's Davie," a boy of maybe 3 or 4,"...and.. and that's Elizabeth. She's the Lightning." He stated the obvious. Elizabeth was less than two, I guessed.

"What a tent you have." I said. Stephanie and Jimmy, obviously the ones responsible for its construction, grinned proudly.

"Yes, I know!" Stephanie answered.

"You know what tents are good for?" I asked.

"What?" The two asked.

"Telling stories."

"I don't wanna hear a story." Stephanie turned up her nose.

"I do!" said jimmy. "A good one!"

I tried to get comfortable. "Well once, upon a time..."

Several hours later, I was lying on my back with the Lightning Elizabeth asleep on my stomach. Jimmy, Davie and Stephanie were lying all around me. Dinner had long since been eaten, and I'd been through at least a dozen stories.

"Did Taul and Gabriel get married?" Stephanie asked.

"Well sure," I answered. "But only Paladin knows where they went."

Jimmy looked puzzeled. "How come Taul married her? She's a dragon!"

"But some dragons can turn themselves into people...like changelings on Star Trek, Jimmy." Stephanie said matter-of-factly. I smiled. Just then, a head poked in from outside.
It was Steve. "Oh!" He looked astonished. "No wonder everything's so damn quiet! What are you doing?" He asked.

"She's telling us stories!!" Jimmy piped up excitedly.

"Stories huh?" Steve smiled at me and I smiled back.

"Come in with us Uncle Steve." Stephanie begged.

"Oh I don't think there's enough room." He answered. He still felt kind of shitty since his wife did not bring him his little girls.

"Please???" Stephanie clasped her hands together. "You can lie down, and we'll move over...PLEEEEASE???"

Steve grinned and sighed. "Alright, alright. Move over darlin'." He said. I moved over, and he crawled in beside me. Damn! There wasn't much room. Thankfully, he hadn't had a chew in a while, so there was plenty of air to breathe. Stephanie looked around. Then an idea must have hit her because her eyes popped open. She whispered something to Jimmy, whose eyes also popped open. He turned and whispered to Davie, who immediately yelped out "Yeah!!!"

"What?" I asked.

"Tell us a story about you and uncle Steve!" Stephie asked.

"What?" I was a bit dazed by the question.

"Yeah!" said Jimmy. "Make him save you!!"

"I don't need saving.." but I was interrupted.

"From a monster!!" Davie piped up.

"Please??" said Jimmy. I sighed, and deliberately did not look at Steve, who must have been laughing at me. Davie crawled over me and onto Steve. He lay on Steve's stomach just like Elizabeth was on mine, and started sucking his thumb. How should I do this? Oh damn....

"Once upon a time there lived a girl named Joanne."

"No!!" I was almost immediately interrupted by Jimmy. "You have to be a beautiful princess!!

"Let's not stretch things too much here." I answered dryly. Steve choked back a sarcastic snort. Jimmy ignored me.

"You HAVE to be a princess! That way uncle Steve can be a handsome prince and save you from the three headed monster!!!"

"The three headed monster is already dead!" Stephanie exclaimed. "Hercules killed him three stories ago!!"

"Who is telling the story?" I asked. "You or me?"

Both kids were quiet. "Once upon a time there lived a young girl named Joanne. She had a very special friend named Steve."

And so I wove my story. An evil Anthony (my boss??? surely not!!!) who was an evil sorcerer with worms in his teeth captured me and locked me in a dungeon. Steve of course, came to my rescue with several  death-defying feats of bravery. Jimmy and Stephanie loved it, but Davie fell asleep. I guess he was tired. It was hard not to look at Steve as I told the story; our eyes met several times. I have a hunch he was enjoying the entertainment every bit as much as I was enjoying giving it.

"When are you going to kiss?" Stephanie asked at last.

"Shhh..."Jimmy ordered. "Don't interrupt. They will.

I looked at Steve, and took a deep breath. The smallness of the tent became very apparent indeed. I kept on with my story. I was saved from the dungeon, Steve nearly died from a poisonous wound. Of course, on his almost-death-bed, I confess my love, and this gives him a reason to fight and keep living. The kiss I described for the children was significantly less passionate than the one I had imagined in my head of course. I did not look at Steve at all while telling this, but I could feel the warmth radiating from his body as he lay next to me.

"The end." I say at last.

"Did you have sex?" Stephanie begged to know.

"What?" I was almost chocked.

"What's sex?" Jimmy asked. Steve was howling. I tried hard not to laugh myself.

"Sex is when a man sticks his pee-pee into a woman's..."

"His pee-pee?!?!" Jimmy exclaimed.

"Yeah..." said Stephanie.

"Ok, Stephie. That's enough." I said.

"But I wanna know..." Jimmy protested.

"Too bad!" I said. Thankfully, a head poked into the tent.

"Oh there you are!" It was some of the cousins, looking for their kids.

"Time to go."

"Awww..." Stephanie and Jimmy protested, but they climbed out all the same. Everyone went upstairs to say good bye. Within half an hour, the house was quiet. Everyone had left.

Chapter 8

I went back downstairs to clean up the tent. I stood there, staring at it for a moment. Then, I had the urge to crawl back in, so I did. I stretched out and flung my arms behind my head. I was only alone for about 10 minutes, when a head poked in. It was Steve. Without a word, he crawled in. After getting comfortable, he asked,

"Mind if I join you?"

"Well, you're already here." I answered. "Bit late for me to say no, ain't it?"
He grinned and lay on his back. All was quiet for a little while.

"The kids really liked you." He said. I nodded.

"I like kids." I answered.

"I thought I was gonna clobber Stephanie though..." Steve laughed out loud, and so did I.

"What's sex?" He rubbed his hand over his face.

"No, Jimmy's reaction was much better. His pee-pee?!?!?!" I mimicked his high voice, and Steve laughed. Our eyes met again, and for some reason, the laughter just died. I breathed deeply, and then looked up.

"I think I might go riding tomorrow morning." I said, trying to change the subject. "Lightning would probably enjoy it."

"I think I may go riding tonight." Steve said.

"Tonight?" I looked at him, surprised. He was on his side, looking at me. Then he rolled over, but not onto his back.

"Mmmhphhh." Our lips met, and I breathed deeply again. I shifted position a bit, and he moved so that he was completely on top of me. The kiss grew deeper, and my hands reached for the back of his neck. I ran my fingers up on the back of his head. It was very soft and smooth. I could hear his heart. No doubt he could hear mine too; it was pounding loud enough. I sighed a bit, and then reached my tongue into his mouth. I caressed his teeth, tongue, the roof of his mouth and then the inside of his cheek.

Then I found myself half biting his lip. He sighed again and both of us breathed deeply. One of my hands was now running down the length of his upper body. I reached around his back, looking for the small of it. One of his hands was now reaching up into my shirt. I had to shift my position again.  I need more room. I used my right leg as a lever and rolled him over onto his back. I rolled with him, onto the top, and began biting his lip even harder. I moved from his lips to his chin, jaw, ear, and then his neck. He sighed, then I sighed and then took a breath. He jockeyed for position, and was about to roll me over, but we almost crashed into the chairs.

"Ooops." I barely managed to breathe out.

"Hmm..." he said, and rolled the other way. His lips found mine again in another half bite half kiss. He searched for my ear, and then my neck. One of his hands was still in my shirt, the other was near my waist and hips. I was caressing the small of his back with one hand still, the other was higher up, inside his shirt, just near the shoulder blades by now I think. We slowed a bit.

"You can't make love to your customers can you?" Steve asked.

"Sorry, not a prostitute." Popped out of my mouth before I even had a chance to think. Steve gave a low laugh, then squeezed me really tightly. I let out a rather low moan, and he bit my ear. Both of us sat up, but our legs were sort ofen twined around each other a bit. I sung my arms around his neck, and he put a hand on my back. I smiled at him and he smiled back. We both sighed, and then kissed again. And then we kissed again, and again, and then, by some miracle, I was lying on my back again, with Steve on top of me.

My mouth searched for his neck, and then he searched for my ear. My hands gripped his body tightly, I was careful not to dig my nails in. I was about to use my right leg as a lever to roll him over again, but he grabbed it instead. With one hand placed firmly on the inside of my thigh, just above my knee, he shifted his weight so that I simply could not move. My leg was now half outstretched, half bent, and all I could do to get comfortable was move my left leg out from under him. One of my arms was firmly wrapped around his neck, with my fingers rubbing his head. My other arm was just at his back again, firmly pressing him towards me.... as though he needed any help.

"God, woman...let me fuck you?" He half asked, half pleaded. Steve's left hand was now moving up the inside of my thigh. I really need to get out of these clothes, I thought to myself. We slowed down a bit again. I breathed deeply, and so did Steve. He took his hand off my thigh, and I shifted position. After a moment of silence, just holding each other, we both sat up. Remarkably, even after all the rolling around, the tent was still intact. I looked at it.

"Strong little tent." I said. Steve nodded.

"I was thinking that." He grinned. The he started looking around. Oh man, I thought to myself. Don't go have a chew!

"Feel like a cup of coffee?" He asked. I smiled.

"You know I do."

"I need a chew." He said. I raised an eyebrow and grinned.

"No you don't." I bit his ear.

"You WANT a chew... big difference.

He smiled at me and raised an eyebrow. "Look miss..." I stopped him with a very hard kiss, and then stood up, ruining the tent.

"Oops." I grinned.

"I'll go make the coffee. "

Why don't you clean this thing up?"
