Chapter 7

The next morning Angel woke up to an unusually sunny day.  The light filtered in through the windows and cast the room in a warm glow.  She heard someone moving around in the kitchen and sat up in bed.  Gavin came into the room carrying a tray with an assortment of breakfast goodies.  He smiled when he saw she was awake and kissed her good morning.

"Hello, love." Hope you don't mind, I made breakfast." Angel giggled to herself.  For some reason, Gavin hadn't seemed like the making breakfast type.

"Yeah, I can see that."

"I didn't know what you'd like so I made a little bit of everything." He said, sitting down beside her and plucking some grapes from the tray into his mouth.

"It's fine, fantastic actually." Gavin smiled contentedly as he watched her pile a plate high with eggs, bacon, sausage, and two pancakes with syrup.

"So what are we doing today?" Angel asked between bites.

"Um, I thought we could stay in and play a little." Angel could have laughed at the mischievous look he was giving her.

"I'd love to do that baby but we've got a job to do.  Or at least, I do." Gavin nodded his head in understanding.

"Ok then, we can go sightseeing.  I'll show you all my old hang outs."

*************************

And so sightseeing they went.  Gavin took Angel to an old decrepit building and explained how it had once been an underage nightclub; one of the many the Soraya had visited with him.  Through those wild and sometimes sordid adventures he achieved an open mindedness about all kinds of people and lifestyles.  Gavin told her how his sister would color his hair and paint his nails like his glam rock idols.

After a couple of more hours they decide to go back to the hotel.  Gavin went to take a shower and Angel began packing up her stuff to move into Gavin's suite for the rest of their trip.  Gavin stepped out of the shower and wrapped a towel around his waist. There was a knock on his door and thinking it was Angel or the room service he's ordered, Gavin opened the door quickly and was stunned at what he found on the other side.  Alexis.  Her long black hair was up in a bun, her face perfectly made up.  The epidemy of female perfection, or a perfect copy.

What do you want? He finally managed.  Alexis lifted a well manicured hand to take off her shades revealing crystal clear brown eyes.  Her delicately curved lips turned into a smile.

I need to talk, Gavin.  About us. She simply stated.  Gavin snorted through his nose.

There is no us.  Not anymore. The smile faded from her face.

How can you say that? After all thats happened between us? Gavin was pacing the room. He turned on her suddenly, letting out all the frustration and anger hed been feeling was starting to sound like a good idea.

What are you talking about Alexis? You make it sound as if Im the one who fucked up. He said coldly, not caring if he hurt her feelings.  She didnt care about his.  Alexis looked at her feet, averting his burning gaze at all costs.

I know what I did was wrong.

No, it was unforgivable.  You betrayed me.

You made mistakes too Gavin. Alexis shot back.  Gavin shook his head.

Its not the same. Alexis took a breath to hold back the tears that were threatening to spill over.  She did love Gavin, that much was true.

Baby, I know if you give me a chance that we can work this out. Gavin stepped back away from her.

Its over Alexis.  Get over it.  I have. Gavin said turning his back to her.

But--

Get out. He stated coldly.  His back still to her.  He would not look back.  Alexis walked to the door.  She was furious.  She couldnt believe how cold and distant Gavin had been towards her.  She wasnt used to begging for male attention, specially men she wanted.  And it was all because of that blonde bitch that had latched her little claws into Gavin.  Once she reached the lobby, Alexis made a dash for the reception desk.  There was no one visible so she rang the bell.  A young man stepped out and immediately grinned when he saw her waiting.  Alexis smiled to herself, he couldnt be more that 18.  This was going to be easy.  She put on her well practiced smile and began trying to get Angels room number.

*************************

Angel was desperately trying to force her suit case closed.  Funny, it had all fit perfectly and now she couldnt even get it halfway closed. Shit. She cursed under her breath as she tucked stray strands of her hair behind her ears.  There was a light knock on the door and she eagerly went to open it; thankful for the distraction.  Angel looked at the very attractive woman in her doorway.  She was beautiful, but looked really pissed off.

Ahh, hi can I help you?

Yeah are you Angel Wallace? Alexis asked.  Of course she already knew that it was, thanks to her friend at the front desk. Angel nodded her head and smiled.

Yes, thats me. Alexis smiled and extended her hand.

Great, Im Alexis Silverstone, Gavins girlfriend. She replied smiling.  Angels eyes widened slightly as the words slapped her into a state of shock.  She numbly shook the other womans hand.

May I come in? Angel nodded her head.

I dont mean to be rude, but what can I help you with? Angel said, her anger flaring.

Gavin. Alexis replied smoothly, sitting down in one of the chairs. Angel raised her eyebrows.

Excuse me? She said crossing her arms over her chest.  What the fuck is this?

Well I know you two are great friends and hes been really distant lately, I dont know why though. Oh I could think of a couple of reasons......Angel thought.

Distant how? She asked dumbly.

Like he hasnt been calling or writing. Alexis said quietly, playing the role of broken hearted girlfriend perfectly.

Maybe hes moved on. Angel said shrugging her shoulders. Alexis stood up abruptly.

To you? Angel nodded her head.

I was under the impression that you two were broken up. Angel said angrily.

Well you were wrong.  Listen I know about you two ok? I just came to tell you to back off. Alexis said pointing a finger in Angels face.

And why would I do that? Angel asked stepping closer to the other woman.  Alexis extended her left hand towards Angel and wiggled her fingers, the glistening diamond catching the light.

Were engaged.

Chapter 8

"No problem, I won't go anywhere near him." Angel said not bothering to look Alexis in the eyes.  She would not give her the satisfaction of letting her see the tears pooling there.  Alexis nodded her head once, picked up her bag and left the room.  Angel got up and closed the door.  Her knees felt weak causing he to slide down the length of the door to sit on the floor, wrapping her arms around her knees.  This could not be happening.  Gavin had lied? Everything that he'd said about Alexis had be a lie; and she had given him what he'd wanted: A good fuck.  Angel angrily brushed the tears from her eyes and pushed herself to her feet.  She started shoving things into her suitcase, until everything she'd brought with her was packed one way or the other.  A couple of minutes later, someone knocked on her door.

"Hello love, ready to move in?" Gavin was smiling.  That brilliant smile that you could fall instantly in love with, and she had.  Angel looked at him and tried to push the door closed but he stopped it with his foot.

"What's wrong Angel? Why are you so upset?"

"I don't want to talk to you right now." Gavin walked up to her and took hold of her arms, brown eyes flashing with confusion and something else that she couldn't understand.

"Tell me." He said.  He looked like he wanted to cry and it only served to make Angel angrier.  She pushed his arms away from her and Gavin took a couple of steps backward.

"I know ok?!? I know you bullshitted me about everything!"

"What are you talking about? Bullshitted about what?" Gavin had no idea what she was talking about.

"About Alexis.  You told me you two weren't together.  You slept with me and you had a girlfriend!" Gavin sighed and ran a hand through his hair.  So that was it, Alexis had paid her a visit as well.

"I can explain this-"

"Yeah? Well explain it to the air because I won't be around to hear it."

"You're leaving?"

"What do you think?" Angel asked incredulously.  What did he think that she would allow this, whatever they were, to continue? "I want you to leave Gavin.  I can't even look at you right now."

"Angel--"

"Leave." She basically growled out between her teeth.  She wanted to slap him and hug him at the same time.  Gavin nodded his head and walked out of the room, making sure to slam the hell out of the door.  After she was sure he'd left, Angel picked up the phone and dialed Gwen's number.  She needed to talk to someone, to vent all this frustration she was feeling.  Gwen picked up on the third ring.

"Hello?"

"Gwen it's Angel."

"Ang! What's up? How's the trip going?"

"Not so good.  A lot's happened and I don't know what to do."

"Hey c'mon, its not that bad, everything will work out in the end." Gwen said, always the optimist.

"I slept with him."

"You WHAT? Oh my god."

"That's not the bad part, he has a fianc."

Who Alexis? No theyve been off for a long time now. Gwen said shaking her head dismissively.  She'd actually been present in the room when Gavin had broken it off with her.

Well that didnt stop her from coming up here and telling me to back off. Angel said beginning to pace.  She felt like a caged animal.

What are you going to do? Have you talked to Gavin?

Hell just deny everything.  Listen, I think its best if I come home.

I dont think running away from your problems is what you should do.  Talk to Gavin and find out his side of the story.  If you dont youll hate yourself.

Ill think about it. Thanks G. I love ya. They said their goodbyes and then hung up.  Angel sat down on the couch that faced London Square.  After a couple of minutes, she got up and walked over to the phone, looking down at it as if it were an alien.  How does Gwen do that? Figure out her way of thinking before she did? Just as she was about to pick up the receiver, it began to ring.

Hello? Angel asked rubbing at her temples in a gesture to fight off her impending headache.

Ms. Wallace? Angelica Wallace? Asked the male voice on the other end.  Angel's heart began to thump loudly in her chest.

Yes. She answered numbly.

Im Constable Marcus Renault with the LPD.  Im calling to inform you that Mr. Gavin Rossdale was just in a car accident.

Oh my god, where is he? Angel was sure the world around her had ceased to exist.

Hes on his way to Lady of Mercy Hospital right now maam.

Thank you.  Ill be right there. Angel said barely above a whisper.  She brushed her hair, picked up her purse, and headed out to her rental car.  It was her fault.  She had thrown him out before letting him explain himself.  He'd gotten so mad that he'd just gotten in his car and sped off.  As she drove through the buzzing midnight streets of London, Angel sent a silent prayer up: 'God please don't let him die. Please'.
