JOHN (JACK) KEOSKEY A man with an immense variety knowlege and interests-one was reading- about history, wars, the building of bridges, space, the unknown, famous people in history, and so much more. He loved music, a wide variety from George Gershwin to Glen Campbell- classic horror movies,(the originals)- (did a great imitation of the 'Wolfman' which could scare the pants off of you), Frankenstein, Dracula- loved Laurel and Hardy, Cagney, Rooney, Wayne and all of the truly great classics. Eagerly looked forward to the Holidays, especially Easter and Christmas, he actually baked the traditional Easter bread after my Grandmother died. He loved children and they loved him. He could fix anything in the house and otherwise, and was 'the rock' that grounded the family. We love him, miss him, and hold him our hearts forever. His wife and soulmate, his son and two daughters, his two grandsons, all feel a great part of us is gone, but are better for having him be a part of our lives, and the memories we have of him keep us close to him, almost as if he were still here with us. The New York skyline...a mesmerizing site. My Father had a role in etching part of that incredible scene. An Iron worker, a metal lather, he worked and climbed those huge steel beams, which tower up above the clouds. . Some of the best built buildings in the city, using steel reinforced concrete. Where we all live, we have but to step outside of the house and there it is-- that magnificent silloutte.. He and his team built some of the most well known, architecturally reknowned buildings which have become a part of it. Off to work at 5:AM, returning home with cuts and gashes and tar that had to be 'scrubbed off' of his raw knuckles- many times over the years he camae home with broken bones or concussions. It's a dangerous job, and he lost friends because of it..But high up there, he strode those beams as if he had been born to walk them. Always wore the US flag on his hardhat. A tough guy to be sure, yet at the same time, a gentle soul. One of a kind, his memory will forever be a part of us- his family. He was 'the rock, the center of 'calm' yet he could be as tough as nails when he had to. Talent and knowledge in so many areas. Looking back, it was taken for granted that he would always be there when you needed him, for any kind of help, advice or to answer to any question, somehow he always knew the answer. The soul mate and love of my Mother's life, as she was to him. Father to myself my Brother and Sister, and Grandfather/Father to my two sons. So much to say, I cannot do him justice, but I wanted to show just a bit of what a unique and special man he truly was- loved by all who had the priviledge to know him. |
