What is High Romantic Art?
When I enter the realm of art, I enter the realm of High Romance, a realm of beauty and adventure.  It is a realm that can transcend the love between a man or a woman. An idea or an emotion does not have to be sensual in nature or  to be considered 'romantic'. High romance describes ideas, scenery, and textures, and moods. It is a phrase that aptly describes a glorious sunset, a starlit sky, or a child's first laugh, or a confidence shared between friends.
When I paint, I try to reflect something much greater than myself, and that is the romance God has with our spirits. He is the Creator of High Romance, the very Essence that gives it life. It is impossible to feel joy without His creation of it, and yet one cannot truly know joy without knowing sorrow.   He has given us every aspect of our being to feel, touch, and sense His glorious creation in a way far beyond what we in our human sensibilities would call romantic.
Within the expressiveness of my  artwork, I  have a guideline that I adhere to, perhaps more strongly now than when I began painting. I let the Scripture of Philipians 4:8 quoted on the Home Page be my barometer of what I deem acceptable. Within this verse is the very heart of High Romance: whatsoever things are true, honest, just, pure, lovely, of good report, virtuous, and praise worthy. The only time I make an 'exception' for this standard is when I am interpreting a particular passage or verse from the Bible, resulting in works such as The Strange Woman or Jezebel. These women may not fall within the scope of Philipians 4:8, but they do fall within the pages of Scripture and for me that is the most ultimate guideline around.
