JOHN D. HANCE, SECRETARYRE: UPDATE ON CLUB BUSINESS
HAPPY NEW YEAR TO ALL! This brief (?) news letter is being sent to all members to keep everyone up to speed on past and future club business.
Election results for 2003 are as follows:
Joe Conrey: President
Steve Fitzsimmons: Vice President
Chuck Wilkins: Treasurer
John Hance: Secretary
John Conrey: Trustee
Al Massa: Trustee
John Bloom: Trustee
Deer week went well and a good time was had by all. We even stayed within our budget! It was good to have Mr. Bloom with us all week. It was quiet without Mr. Massa. We all missed him and hope to see him soon.
For those of you who don’t already know, Woodland Twp. has raised our property taxes $1000.00 a year. Since this is an expenditure that we will face from now on, a motion was made and passed at our 11-17-2002 meeting that yearly dues will be increased from $180.00 to $240.00 for all members.
To give us a better financial cushion, a motion was also passed at the 11-17-02 meeting to raise the $5.00 initiation fee for all new members to $100.00.
Our new 100ft. well is running strong. The well pit is scheduled to be back-filled soon & we will have the water quality tested as soon as possible.
The club was utilized by both bow and muzzleloader hunters last fall & the winter season after deer week. With fishing season around the corner, it’s good to see the club being used on a year round basis.
A new "Ways and Means Committee" was formed at our 1-19-2003 meeting. Greg Holmes, Jack Moritz, Dave Russell and Dennis Moore have agreed to be committee members. Their mission will be to research and implement ways to raise additional monies for club improvements. It was agreed by all at the meeting that insurance (fire & liability) is our top priority and Steve Fitzsimmons will be doing research. We are in the process of making a list of needed club improvements. Some of the suggestions made so far have been: A new auto-feed trap, new windows with screens, a replacement door for the large bunkroom, ceiling fans for the large bunkroom, a new kitchen stove (or at least a major cleaning and some new parts), a stainless steel top food prep table for the kitchen, paint the roof (and fix the leak), a coat of paint for the interior of the building, replace the fan over the kitchen stove, more electrical outlets in the bunkrooms, repairs to the heating system (new oil storage tank), repair the keg system behind the bar so we can have tap beer, a second shower for the bathroom, "bat-proof" the attic and a new kitchen floor. As you can see, the Ways & Means Committee has its work cut out. I’m sure I’ve missed some members’ suggestions. We are asking ALL members for input on what improvements we need. We will then sit down and prioritize our "wish-list" and go from there.
For those of you that have spent any time at the club this winter, you are well aware of our temperamental oil furnace. A big thanks to Jack Moritz and Joe Conrey and all the other members who have kept the furnace going so far. Due to the furnace shutting itself off with no warning, we have installed a small electric heater in the small bathroom to keep the pipes from freezing.
We now have a NEW website!
Camo ball hats with the PR&G logo are still available. Check with Steve Fitzsimmons.
Welcome to Dennis Moore, our newest member.
Keeping the membership list up to date has been an ongoing job. Please let me know if you need to make any changes. You can leave a message with me 24/7 @ 908-369-0540.
As in the past, the scheduled meeting dates are the 3rd Sunday of each month @ noon. All members are strongly urged to attend. Perhaps when the weather improves, we can get a trap shoot/target practice organized after the meeting.
Dave Russell is in the process of checking into "sporting organizations" that we may wish to become affiliated with (ex:NRA). We are now a CMP affiliated club. With the proper insurance in place, we may be able to sponsor organized trap & pistol events at our club sometime in the future.
At our 1-19-03 meeting, Greg Holmes suggested that we implement a "hunter safety" system with a warning flag and/or sign-in sheet to warn other members that club hunters are out back in the woods. A map showing the location of all tree stands set-up by members was also suggested. If a club member should have some type of unfortunate accident and not return to the club, we will know where to look first.
At this time, no official dates have been set for 2003 work days/weekends. As this info becomes available, it will be posted on our website and at the club. You can be sure something will be set up for the spring. If time permits, you may be notified by a post card or last minute by a phone call. Again, help us keep the membership list up to date so we can notify you.
All members are encouraged to use the clubhouse year round. All we ask is that you PLEASE keep it clean.
Congratulations to Don who took a nice 8-pointer from ‘across the street’ during deer week.
As you can see, a lot will be happening in 2003. Please try to attend all meetings and keep your dues up to date.
THANK YOU,
John D. Hance, Secretary
