Department Philosophy: The mission of the DeKalb County World Languages curriculum is to equip all students with the strategies and skills to communicate proficiently and effectively in the target language and to facilitate appreciation of other languages and cultures, as well as their own, in preparation for active participation in a global society.

 

Course Description: The student further refines listening, speaking, reading and writing skills.  The development of higher learning skills allows the student to manipulate the language in multiple settings.  Culture is further expanded.

Required Materials: 3-ring binder (at least 1” ring), notebook dividers (at least five)  blue/black pen, 8 ½”x 11”paper, 3” x  5” index cards, textbook, open mind, positive attitude. A #2 pencil will also be acceptable.

Bring required materials always unless otherwise notified.

 

BE COURTEOUS!

Don’t talk during instruction, respect the property and rights of others, raise your hand only when you are not interrupting others, remain seated when the bell rings until the teacher dismisses class.

Late Assignments: Students who have an unexcused absence may turn in work after the due date, provided that the work has not been reviewed or returned to the class.  The student has one class day for each day of missed class days to turn in the work.  No late assignments will be accepted during the last week of classes.

Make-up Policy:  One day shall be given for each day missed for make-up work to be obtained, completed and turned in.  It is the STUDENT’S RESPONSIBILITY to contact the teacher (before or after school) to make arrangements to obtain and complete make-up work.  The teacher likes to have a conference with the student regarding all missed work so as to insure that the student is able to keep up and do well in spite of missed class time.

Re-do Policy: A student may retake any failed test.  All re-dos must take place in the tutorial session within a week of the return of the test.  The recorded grade will be an average of the original score and the new score.  Quizzes may also be retaken.

Policies and Procedures:

1.                  Textbooks may not be shared by classmates.

2.                  Each student is required to do a 3-5 minute spoken presentation in German about her/himself and friends.  Students must also submit a hard copy of the presentation for evaluation.  A rubric for this project shall be given prior to the due date of the project.

3.                  Each student is required to maintain a course notebook.  A rubric for same is attached.  Notebooks will be checked at least three times during the semester.  Checks may or may not be announced.

4.                  For each chapter covered during the course a student must present orally a dialog along with a partner.  Each spoken performance will count as a quiz or a test, according to the discretion of the teacher.  A rubric for same is attached.

 

 

 

HONOR CODE:        Any student who talks to another student; copies another student’s work or allows another student to copy her/his work; looks on another student’s paper or allows another student to look on her/his paper; has notes pertaining to the course on her/his desk, seat or person during any graded activity is guilty of cheating.  All students involved will receive a reduced grade and parents may be notified.

 

 

Extra Credit:  No extra credit shall be assigned except for learning games or bonus points that the teacher includes in (a) given lesson(s)!!!
