| Claudia Jean Cregg is sitting in her car, resting her head against the steering wheel and crying. The red dress she's wearing definitely doesn't fit her mood. She was too late. She missed her cue; her opening line. And no one stepped up in her place. All she had to do was say something when it came to the right place, and she'd been late. And he had kept his promise to another woman and said his vows in front of God and everyone. "Speak now or forever hold your peace." Well, now it's too late to say anything. She has to hold her peace. Forever. Sitting up straight, CJ wipes her eyes and composes herself. She starts the car and drives out of the parking lot without looking back. She gets on the freeway at the closest exit and heads to the airport. She buys a one-way ticket from the woman at the counter and gets a weird look when she has no luggage to check. She doesn't have a carry-on either. She doesn't notice the look. After walking through security, she walks over a pay phone and dials a familiar number. "Hey, it's me. Listen, I need you to do me a favor. Pack my stuff up, please. All of my personal belongings. Pictures, clothes... that sort of thing. You can have everything else. You're going to have to send it to me. I'll pay you back. I don't know where you're going to send it... I'll call you when I find a place. I can't stay here anymore. Thank you...I'll explain when I can. Yeah, you, too. Bye." CJ hangs up the phone and sits down to wait for her flight to be called. She stands when Flight 99 to Los Angeles International Airport is called. She looks out the window at the skyline of New York City and says a silent goodbye. She's leaving her old life behing and giving up on ever getting the love of the only man she's ever loved, because she missed her cue and missed out on the perfect life. She'll start over in LA. She'll find a good paying job, a house, and act like the happy person everyone will know she's not. And she'll do her best to forget him, because he's married now, and she needs to move on. But she won't move on, and he will never be happy with a woman that isn't her. She'll come running when he calls, and he'll give up everything in the end to be with her. But neither of them know that right now. For now, he's her wreck of day that, and the only way she can survive is to drive away. |
