Birdy abode wallhanging
Here you can get a better idea of some of the work involved in this project.  Each of the flowers is individually embroidered with silk ribbon using a chenille needle.  The stems and vines are feather stitched using silk cording, the "windows" are buttons that were attached with perle cotton using bullion stitches.  The little shiny object on the left-hand birdhouse is a hummingbird button that has a metallic glazed finish.

The embroidery is about 2/3 of the way completed.  Next steps will be adding borders, batting and backing, then hand quilting the "sandwich."  I will add more photos as visible progress is made. 7/3/02
This is a view of the center panel in it's initial stages.  Each of the birdhouses was hand appliqued to the stylized cotton background.  Each part of the house is cut from different cotton calicos.  The panel measures appx. 18x24 inches.  It will be surrounded by varying borders of bright peach and french blue in medium and darker values.

thimble fingers...
7/11/02  Here are swatches of fabric that I used to make a Hawaiian shirt for my hubby.  The scanner has given a stripey effect, but the colors are pretty true.  The fabric is covered with all kinds of tropical birds!
