EPILOGUE
Rome, less than one year later...
Caesar, you honor our company tonight.
Augustus took in the vision of Kordelia, Domita Dominicus, smiling up at him like a long lost friend. Her gown was exquisite, made of white silk so fine every detail of her naked perfection could be seen by any of the guests who cared to look. Unlike the fashionable Roman matrons Kordelia wore her long hair loose in flowing waves behind her, the front held away from her face by a simple silver stepane.
The pleasure is all mine, Lady. He managed to speak smoothly. We were delighted to hear of our friends marriage. We wish you both great joy.
He was rewarded with another smile, dazzlingly brilliant, from the gorgeous bride. The emperors guards and those who knew him well were shocked by his courtly language and kind words. Caesar Augustus was not known for responding to flirtations. Of course, this foreign lady was charming and extraordinarily beautiful.
Kordelia drifted past him, floated about the room of guests as they reclined on couches and were served a magnificent feast by slaves made up and costumed to look like nymphs. Occasionally she stopped to chat with someone, she was a most attentive hostess.
Augustus stared after her hungrily. More than one pang of regret struck him as he watched her. He was too selfish to be genuinely pleased by Angelus and Kordelias happiness. It reminded him too much of his own lost prize. The one good thing that had come out of giving Kordelia to Angelus was Angeluss forgiveness of half the loans Augustus had borrowed to finance the invasion of Egypt.
The woman was incredibly beautiful. Men and women alike followed her revealed form with their eyes. The sensuous sway of her walk, her flowing hair, big upright breasts thrusting proudly against the silk of her tunic, and the dark neatly groomed triangle between her long shapely legs commanded attention. The triangle looked like it might be wet...
Kordelia paused for a moment, then she slowly turned and looked back at him over her shoulder. She met his eyes and smiled broadly, shamelessly. Surely she knew just what he was thinking.
The toga was probably one of the stupidest garments ever thought of in Augustuss opinion. It was long and encumbered ones step. One had to literally carry the side of the togas folds in one hand, leaving only one hand free to do anything.
But at least the bulky folds hid a mans arousal.
*********** **************** **************
You cant have Augustus, Angelus insisted. His voice was ragged as they kissed hard and passionately. He had pinned Kordelia against the wall in the darkest corner of the garden. Hopefully none of the banquet guests could see them but neither Angelus nor Kordelia cared if they could.
Why not? Kordelia moaned as Angelus drew her skirt up high around her hips. She smiled at him, all wide-eyed innocence. Hes not as cold-fishy as he pretends to be. He thinks about women Kordelia gasped as Angelus used two fingers to penetrate her core. Oooohhh! Angelus! Her arm around his back dropped to his ass and she squeezed feverishly. He thinks about womenand mena lot. Ohhhhhh!
Angeluss thumb glided onto her swollen clitoris. He kissed her passionately to muffle her cries as he caressed her soft heat. Their tongues met and danced together languidly, slowly. Kordelia whined against his mouth, rocked her hips hungrily against his fingers.
Angelus! Oh no! Please!
She moaned despairingly as he drew his hand away from her body. She swallowed, looked down so he wouldnt see the hurt she felt when he wouldnt complete her. But he felt it anyway.
We need to go back to the party, Angelus whispered against her forehead. He softly kissed one arched eyebrow. You need to feed more.
No! Desperately she held his face in her hands, pressing her body against him. Ive had enough! I want to be with you!
You know you have to. His heart ached as her rich hazel eyes filled with tears. "Xiao-Mei cannot feed you tonight for me, she needs to rest."
The hours after hed buried Kordelia in the rich black soil of his own vineyard had been pure hell for Angelus. When she climbed out of the earth and thrown herself laughing into his arms, hed taken her right there on her own grave.
The intense passion and attachment he felt for his new childe had freed his soul. He remembered his past years like a terrible nightmare. How could he have done the harm he had donewith such pleasure? Though he still felt the demons influence within him, Angelus still could not fathom its motives in hatred, in cruelty, in killing. In not loving.
Nor had the change contaminated Kordelias soul and its connection to her body. Angelus still was not certain whether it was because she was already a demon or if it was because of their bondtheir intrinsic need to be close, then to mate, then to love.
But when she had tried to feed...
Angelus would never forget the terror of holding her as she vomited blood copiously, her face swollen and flushed with agony. He could never forget his own mindless terror of losing her, the fear freezing his dead heart. What happened to a vampire unable to sustain its natural food?
The irony of their situation never ceased to make Angelus want to laugh and weep at the same time. Their misery was his fault, for he was the one who made her. But how could I have known it would be like this? How could I understand what I felt about her when I didnt feel it? I didnt feel my soul and I could not know.
Kordelia. Angelus kept his voice low and calm. You are a succubus vampire. You feed on erotic desire and dreams. On lust.
Kordelia threw herself against him. One small strong hand gripped the heavy bulge at Angeluss crotch and he growled his pleasure.
You feel something for me, dont tell me you dont!
I love you, Delia. Completely. Absolutely. With my body and my soul. More than anything on earth. Or Heaven. Or Hell. Angeluss heart wept inside at the perverse comedy of their lives together, now that she was truly his and never could be his in truth. He took a watery breath to control his trembling voice. I cant feed you, Delia. Succubi cant feed on love.
He held her tightly in his arms. Both of them wanted to cry. Both of them knew it was a wasted effort. Kordelia still had to feed. Angelus couldnt feed her.
She nodded slowly and swallowed. I want Agrippa if I cant have Augustus, she said finally, with forced casualness. That bastard destroyed the Egyptian navy and hes also a sourpuss. She smiled then, hazel eyes alight with humorous laughter to hide the anguish inside. We could feed together, she offered.
Yes, Angelus agreed quietly. It made him feel better and worse at the same time, drinking from a man who wanted to fuck Kordelia senseless without a drop of genuine affection for her. But his wanting made Kordelias cheeks pink and rosy, made her strong and healthy, made her immortal.
Angelus wondered if the passing of time would change things. They would get used to this, surely. Or maybe as she matured, Kordelias appetite might change, perhaps she would drink blood like an ordinary vampire though it seemed unlikely.
And their lovethis pure sweet tugging inside Angelus, filling him with joy and painthat would also change with time.
Kordelia smiled at Angelus and he followed her back to the banquet. He watched the woman he loved, the wife of his heart, promenade about the room, smiling and chatting, seducing men with just a look to incite red-hot passionate hunger in their veins. So that their hunger and their fantasies and their dreams could feed her and make her stronger. So that she could survive.
Finally, Angelus had discovered the brutal reality of love between demons.

Kordelia, my sweet beautiful Kordelia
Mine at last, my spoils
After eleven years this infernal
Itching in my head has ceased
To be near you is luscious bliss
To be apart from you is dire agony
I cannot bear the distance between us
Even when we touch so close
My obsession for you has been answered
By the hunger of your passions
The hunger that is never satisfied
A thirst that is never sated
The Oracle has revealed the secret
The key to the enigma of my obsession
My beloved Delias lineage
Reveals her true nature
The cure has become your curse
Blood cannot sustain, only lust
My love, my consort for eternity
I cannot feed you, I am useless to you.
