| Chapter 17 Kylee walked toward the other end of the deck where it was darker. Stars glittered the sky above her and the wind flowed through her long, thick ponytail. She was lost in her thoughts; thoughts about the Olympics, thoughts about Dance Championships, thoughts about Ivan, thoughts about Apolo. They were all swimming in her head like a school of fish in a fish bowl. "Kylee?" Apolo asked cautiously walking closer to her. "What?" Kylee said immediately coming back from her thoughts as she spun around to see Apolo a few steps away from her. "Are you okay?" Apolo asked within arms reach of her. "Yeah, I just have a lot on my mind," Kylee said smiling as a gust of wind cut right through her. "I know what you mean," Apolo said leaning over the railing. "I kept saying to everyone that I don't let the pressure get to me on the ice, but sometimes it's hard not letting the pressure get to you when there is so much." "But I'm sure you'll do fine," Kylee said looking down into the darkness. "I mean you didn't make the Olympic team because you're the worst. You made it because you're the best. Always keep a positive attitude and you'll amaze yourself and once you start amazing yourself, everyone else will start to be amazed by you. It all starts with you." "You sound like one of those inspirational speakers," Apolo said laughing. "but you're right." "To tell you the honest truth that's what our coach tells us before every competition," Kylee said smiling. "Well, she's a great coach," Apolo said. "Thank her for the advice for me." "I'll tell her that tomorrow," Kylee said as the wind started to blow harder. "It's so quiet up here, I wish I could stay here forever," Apolo said. "I come up here every winter by myself to relax," Kylee explained. "My grandfather owns this cabin." "Really?" Apolo said shocked. "Yep, his grandfather built it back in the 1890s. Obviously it's been remodeled a couple times since then. This is like my little sanctuary. This is where I get away from it all. I just come up here, sit in the jacuzzi or just sit up here on the deck and just look at the sights, let my thoughts run wild and leave all my problems behind." "What happens when you return to your life?" "Then everything is just as I had left it. My problems are back and I'm totally stressed out, but I'm lucky cause I have those wonderful girls in there who are always on my side. They have been with me through thick and thin. I don't know what I'd do without them." "And now you have us guys who will always be there, especially this guy." Kylee was silent. She didn't know what to say. For once in her life, she was speechless. "Look, the girls told me what happened with your ex and how he treated you. Let me tell you something, any guy who treats you like that is a jerk and you deserve so much better then that. You are smart, beautiful, and you have a big heart. I mean you would give the shirt off your back to a stranger who was on the street who didn't have one. Don't ever let guys like that pull you down because you are so much better then that." Kylee began to cry and Apolo embraced her. His arms were wrapped around her as if he was protecting her from all the evil in the world. She felt so safe in his arms, something she hadn't felt in a long time. She untangled herself from his arms as she dried her tears. "Sorry I got your jacket all wet," Kylee said looking at the wet spot just below his shoulder. "Don't apologize," Apolo said wipping a tear from her face. He held her head in his hands as he moved closer to her. She didn't have that uncomfortable feeling anymore. She knew she was ready for this. As his lips touched hers, a feeling went through her body. She didn't quite know what it was. They continued to kiss under the glittery sky. She didn't want it to end. She loved being in his arms and being so close to him, but she knew it had to end. When it did they went inside and fell fast asleep on the couch, wrapped up in each other's arms.
