| Chapter 1 It was 10 o'clock at night and practice was finally over. The ladies were about to drop dead because they had been at the studio since 4 o'clock that evening practicing for the World Dance Championships, which were in four weeks. This team was no ordinary dance team, they were Dance USA. Dance USA is a dance team that brings together the best dancers from around the nation and competes against other dance teams from other countries. This year's team was the strongest team Dance USA has ever had. They had placed second in the British Dance Competition (the first Western country to place in that competition) and third at the Asian Championships (the first non-Asian country to place at that competition). Because they had won these two competitions, their popularity was rising. They were making guest appearances in many television shows and doing free concerts for many of the morning shows. To expand their horizons, they recorded their first album, a first for any dance team, and it immediately went to number one. In one year, they had become nobodys to rock star status. Now that everything had sort of calmed down a little, it was time to focus on the World Championships. Last yeat they had gotten sixth place and this year everyone was expecting them to win a medal. So, in order to have a chance at a medal, they had to extend their practice sessions, which meant they would never see the the sun rise or set for a while. "When I go home, I'm taking a bubble bath," Kylee, one of the captains, said toweling off her sweat and throwing on a sweatshirt. "I'm going to hit the showers and go to sleep," Lindsey, the other captain, said yawning. "That sounds like a great plan," Karen, one of the assistant captains said, packing up her stuff into her oversized duffelbag. "I can't wait to go home," Mia said standing up, drapping her duffelbag over her shoulder. "Lets go ladies," Lindsey said leading the way to the double doors that led outside. "Before you guys go," Lisa Shultz, the head coach said, blocking their way. "I have some great news." "Well, what is it?" Crystal, one of the assistant captains, said yawning. "We were invited to preform at the Olympics in Salt Lake," Coach Shultz said excitedly as the ladies matched her excitement. "But it will take a lot of dedication. They want us to preform at the Opening and Closing Ceremonies as well as everyday at the Medals Plaza and they want us to preform at at least one event per day. In addition, to show our support for the US Team, I want at least 20 of you to be at each event." "That's a lot of conditions," Lindsey said. "I mean when are we going to have time for practice?" "Don't worry, the other coaches and I have come up with a schedule so that you all aren't too stressed," Coach Shultz replied. "I still don't know," Karen said. "Did I mention you will get to hang out with the athletes during free time," Coach Shultz exclaimed. "What do you mean?" Kylee asked. "I mean that you will have to oppertunity to try out one sport per day with the athletes that are competing," Coach said. "Then we're in," the ladies said all at once. "Great we leave in two days," Coach said. "What? Did you say two days? Why so early?" Kylee asked concerned. "They want to move us in before they move in the athletes," Coach said. "So it will kind of be lonely for the first day, but the next day it will be like a new world." They were so excited as they all filed out of the dance studio buzzing about what their Olympic experience will be like. They couldn't wait until the Olympics started. It was only two days away, but it was going to be the two longest days of their lives. Chapter 2 Never Had a Dream Come True Homepage Home |
