Master Crafter Melendar
The full tale of Melendar is one that is far far too lengthy to be told here in full.  Suffice it to say that his many encounters would fill books in themselves.  What is offered in the stead of this is a summarization.

Melendar was born the youngest son of Feanor.  Feanor was considered to be the greatest craftsmen of the first born children otherwise known as elves.  In a time before the sun and the moon Melendar learned many the ways of the world from his 7 brothers and his father.  So it was that Melkor, the great enemy made his escape from the blessed realm of Valinor and stole from Feanor the Simaril.  Feanor and  most of his kin swore an oath to reclaim this prized posession from Melkor who Feanor now named Morgoth.  Melendar was no exception to this oath.

On their way to the eastern lands the Noldor lead by Feanor fought their kin the Sindar for posession of their boats; a situation which Melendar was forever embittered for having done.  Finally east of Valinor and across the sea, the Noldor fought Morgoth all they could for the whole of the first age.  During this time Melendar became very close to his brother Maglor.  By the end of this age the Noldor had been greatly diminished due to the fact that their oath had made them betray their better judgement and war in general.  A shadow of the force remained when the Valar swept Morgoth away and of the family only Melendar and Maglor remained.  Now entering a second age of the world and with a sun and moon, the two brothers went to visit the new land of Numenor since their former home had sunk beneath the sea under the weight of the battle that ended the first age.  Over this age the two learned very much about men and their workings and skills they had to teach.  The numenorians were the greatest sailors they had ever seen and this was as much their undoing as the noldors oath had been to them.  For though long lived, these men were still mortal unlike the evles and those in the blessed realm that was forbidden for them to sail to.  The jealousy was slight at first but even so, the two decided to return to their new home in middle-earth.  Blinded by the guise of Sauron as a giver of gifts, the two learned how to craft magic rings and were responsible for many such devices.

As the second age drew on, the peoples of middle-earth defetaed Sauron for only the help of the numenorians.  The two elven brothers curiously returned to numenor since noting that instead of destroying the villian, they brought him back as a prisoner.  Over time they witnessed the division of the country and the corruption of those that heeded Saurons council against Valinor.  For it was their jealousy of imortality that Sauron used to fuel this disention.  The two brothers did much to politically contest this and managed to have a group of faithful numenorians emerge in the leadership of Elendil and his son Isildur.

When the army of numenor went to attack Valinor led by Sauron, the faithful broke away and fled to middle-earth.  It was Isildur himself that saved Melendar from being plunged into the ocean with the reast of the country for punishment of the crime against the blessed realm by Illvutar.  The second age came to an end with the last alliance of men and elves which saw Gil-galad bring together Elrond and the team of Melendar and Maglor.  These were the fiercest foes since the first age to face the shadow.  To the outcome of the battle, the elves had no control over since it was Isildur who took posession of the ring.  Knowing the power that he could weild threw it better than most who lived, the brothers were consluting with Elrond over what measure to take when the ring was lost in the Anduin unbeknownst to all.  The thrid age had come and the two brothers were growing weary.  Being a minsterl at heart, Maglor took to the western shores of middle-earth and would walk and sing of the good times long past in an ode to them for he knew it was not his time to leave yet.  Melendar grew bitter without his brother to support him.

Instead of being jealous as the numenorians had been, Melendar became arrogant to mortals because of their mortality.  He began treating men as inferiors that were not worthy of him.  After spending a great deal of years in Rivendell as a sanctuary he went wandering first in the companies of elves that joined with the dunedain rangers of the north.  After hearing of the witch king destroying the northern kingdom of the ancestors of numenor, Melendar grudgingly felt he owed a debt.  The prospect of saving clueless inocent men did not last long with him, however, and he left to be on his own.  He steadily grew more and more distant and dark and took up residence in the gray havens now as a shelter of sorts.

Cirdan the shipwright was a friend to him as long as he could be before he saw that the Noldor would not change.  Even after the coming of the Wizards from the west did he gain little hope for the future of anything, though it gave him a mind to seek vengence on Sauron for all that had happened to him should he find his brother once again.

Then one day he met the love of his entire lifetime; a young elf named Cimorene.  He was immediately taken by her and quickly sought to take her away with him to Valinor before she could see all he had seen and felt all he had felt.  The world was cruel to him now and he wished to bring her to happiness, but he was twisted then and his attempts came out as a perverted attempt from what was intended.  She fled him and Melendar was kept at bay by her powerful older brother Belegar.

Just as he was giving into dispair, Melendar did meet up with Maglor on the shores near the havens and shared with his brother his dark desire to harm Sauron as much as possible.  Maglor accepted for the sake of their families honor that had been lost so long ago.  The two made their way to Modor and with a small company of Noldor they made it their mission to try to destroy Sauron themselves since they knew he was weak, though returning.  Sauron may have been weakened but his forces were strong, though not so much by the standards of these who had been alive during wars against his master and those forces.

So it was that a bloody guerilla war went on in Mordor while Gondor only saw the black land as one strengthening.  Though they caused much grief to the enemy they could not stop him despite their most sincere efforts and it was the brothers alone that made it out alive even after fending off the Nazgul more than once.  Maglor was now ready to leave but Melendar was not and he begged his elder kinsmen to stay and wait for Melendar to find his Cimorene again.

Maglor once more agreed sensing this could be what his younger brother needed to become a good person once more.  So the two seperated once again and Melendar tried to find and talk to the women but Belegar would not have it after their last encounter and there were a few times that Melendar was stopped only by the fact that he wished to kill no more elves since the last time he had.  So instead he turned to more twisted things.

Melendar found in the far east one of the wizards who had come from the blessed realm and joined with him for they both dispised men now.  Melendar did many cruel things and made many arms to supply this force in their quest.  For years this went on and Melendar slowly forgot about Cimorene and his promise to his brother.  Feeling on the verge of victory in the fourth age, Melendar went west to middle-earth again to talk with what was left of his kind to tell them of the coming storm and to not hinder it.

It was during this time that Melendar encoutnered Cimorene and her brother again but with a new wizard and company.  Their paths intertwined for the same purpose of finding the staiff of Gandalf the Grey, but Melendar wanted it to make a powerful ring for his force in the east for the wizard Luin Ruth to be able to spearhead his force to destroy men.

As it turned out, Melendar, Cimorene, and the others had to join forces to get the staff and ultimately Melendar got to make his great ring.  Melendar went to deliver the item with a heavy heart, since he had second thoughts after the brief time spent with the worthy company.  Luin Ruth sensed this weakness in conviction in Melendar and after the ring was delivered and Melendar said he was off to find Cimorene and leave the lands forever, there was a great duel between the two.  The outcome was that Melendar recieved a lethal spell that destroyed his mind and this was how Cimorene and her new company found him...
