| I Am What I Am | ||||||
| A Story by: Amber Nicole Richards | ||||||
| In order to accommodate all the interesting people that I meet on the Internet I present this proclamation of self as an accurate portrayal of who I am... | ||||||
| I am first and foremost a transgendered individual, or more specifically a bisexual transvestite, also referred to as the more politically correct crossdresser, which means essentially that I am a social outcast to just about everyone. But, it must be made clear also that I don't let that get me down. There was a time when I felt guilty about what I was, that I must be some kind of freak for being a man who enjoys wearing women's clothes. It's not a conscious choice that I made at some time. It has just always been a part of me, and I refuse to be embarrassed or apologetic about it anymore. Social conformity is no longer any concern of mine. I prefer, instead, to try to help people understand and accept me as I am. | ||||||
| I am a man. I do not wish to become a woman. That is essentially what differentiates me from the other half of the transgendered community, the transsexuals. I am happy with the body my creator has bestowed upon me and I do not seek to change it, except perhaps for all this infernal body hair. I would lose that in a heartbeat if I could, instead I am forced to shave. I have worked hard to lose weight so that I would look better both as a man and a woman. With those two exceptions, I haven't, nor will I change my body. | ||||||
| I have a deep appreciation for things that are considered feminine by society's measure. I love to touch and wear things that are soft and pretty. Angora sweaters, fuzzy slippers, silk and lace lingerie, wedding gowns: these are a few of my favorite things. I love the image that is created by skillfully applied makeup. I love to soak in a steaming hot bubble bath and cuddle up with a good book. My favorite colors are pink and lavender. I love to go to the theater, and will often cry during an emotional scene. Now, the question I pose is: What makes these things feminine, and why can't a man like these things too? Just because most men don't like these things, does that mean that I'm a freak. I don't think so, and I sincerely hope that I can get others to think that way too. | ||||||
| I feel that there is nothing more beautiful or wonderful than a woman. They have an amazing capacity for warmth and compassion. They can be so strong and so frail in the same instant. They're not afraid to show they're emotions, good or bad. They form an amazing bond between each other that men are too unsure of themselves to form. In these respects I feel that I've always been more like a woman than a man and I try to hold firm to these aspects of me, as I feel they make me a better person. I feel that honesty is always the best policy. Now, I don't refer to the standard outright lie that no one appreciates, but rather, the small "white lies" that are created to spare my feelings or that people use to make them out to be something that they are not. I prefer to know the truth in the beginning, rather than drag it out and eventually come to the same, now more painful, end. | ||||||
| I'm not a religious person by most people's standards. I believe in a higher power of some sort, because I have no better explanation for the myriad of beautiful and complex things that surround us all. I do not, however, believe in a benevolent, all-powerful being that watches over us and takes interest my personal life. I will not talk down on people for their religious beliefs however, as I cannot say that they are wrong. To me, religion is a set of beliefs that people take on as a convenient explanation for things they can't prove or comprehend. I can appreciate organized religion, because in most cases it teaches fellowship, acceptance of your fellow man, and the value of good deeds. Unfortunately, though religion has also been used as a reason to fight wars, and spread intolerance, which I find to be extremely contradictory. | ||||||
| Well, these are just a few things that I feel strongly about, and if you have any questions about any of these or anything else for that matter, by all means just ask me about it. I'm always happy to enlighten anyone who is interested in learning more about my lifestyle or me. I love to talk to people and make new friends. | ||||||
