Note for attendees of plays: Never, EVER mention this play in a theatre. It brings bad luck. And, if you were heard to say it by an usher or something, you may just be kicked out. If you must mention it, call it "That Scottish Play".

Duncan, King of Scotland
Malcolm: Duncan's son; heir to the thone.
Donalbain: Duncan's other son.
Macbeth: General in Duncan's army.
Banquo: Also Duncan's General; Macbeth's best friend.
Macduff, Lennox, Ross, Menteith, Angus and Caithness: Noblemen of Scotland.
Fleance: Son of Banquo
Siward: Earl of Northumberland (northernmost county of England), General of the English forces.
Young Siward: His son.
Seyton: an officer attending Macbeth
Boy: Macduff's son
An English Doctor, a Scotch Doctor, A Soldier, a Porter, and Old Man.

Hecate, and three witches *Most of the witches dialouge will be kept the same, since it is impossible to revert it into modern English without losing a lot of double meanings and foreshadowing. A1 S1 Summary: Witches meet each other. They decide to meet again after the next battle, tomorrow, on the heath, to meet Macbeth, to mess around with him. Then, their guardian spirits (Graymalkin and Paddock) call them away, and they speak the first of many paradoxes in this play.
