| What it means to us | ||||||||||||||
| It was the day before I was to propose to Jenny when we were at a friends wedding. In the wedding there was a reading that both of us looked at each other and said "that's our reading". The passage spoke to us. "Where you go I will go, and where you stay I will stay. Your people will be my people and your God my God. Where you die I will die, and there I will be buried. May the Lord deal with me, be it ever so severely, if anything but death separates you and me." - Ruth 1:15-16 We could understand exactly what was being said. So the passage from Ruth is kind of the theme for our wedding. You see so many read Ruth as the wife will follow the husband no matter where he moves. My mom even told me that she has the passage marked in her bible, for it seemed every time she got a promotion, or a job she liked, my father would come back and say we're moving to ..... and off we'd go. And there is some significant to that in Jenny and my relationship too. She will after all be leaving her parents and moving over 2 hours away from her home. The place shess grown up, and where everyone she knows is. There is a physical movement that she knows in her heart is the right move, and that in the end will be good for all the boys and herself. But there is more to Ruth than picking up our furniture and setting it down in a new location together. Read on, "your God my God". Ahhh, that's where Ruth hits home. You see, both Jenny and I have been on a search for God over the last decade. Or better yet, we've allowed our relationships with God to dwindle, till there was nothing but an ember where once was a flame. It is here where I know I failed in my last marriage, and where I will not fail in this marriage. For I have rekindled my relationship with God. I know and practice my faith in a manner I never have before. And with it I've brought Jenny, or she's brought me or more like it, together we've grown, pushing each other further than they would have gone on their own, to trust, and have faith beyond what we ever had before. |

| You see together we will worship God. Together we will place Him in our hearts, our marriage, and guide the rest of our family to Him. I think as much as the Ruth means that physically we must always be together, it means that spiritually we must always stay together. So because of that I've had a ring made that will remind me of 1) my marriage to Jenny. The never ending love that is promised and showed daily. 2) of my commitment to God and to keeping my faith, and to keeping Him in my married life. I needed a band with significance to me, and when we saw the prototype we knew immediately that was the ring I would get.. I hope as those who read this, and maybe know this verse, or that it has some significance to them too, that they to can appreciate that we must follow each other not only physically, but spiritually in order to make our marriages work. |
