Chapter one
Sessho-maru was sitting crossed-legged. His head bowed in deep meditation. Ever so often, his tail would twitch letting his personal attendant know that he was awake. What haven't I tried? He thought to himself. That Tetsusaiga sword belongs to me and yet my mongrel of a half brother has staked his claim on it. He recalled the battle he had had when Naraku had given him a human arm which enabled him to hold the Tetsusaiga sword. He had come awfully close to killing his brother and claiming the Tetsusaiga sword as his own until Kagome had forced the Tetsusaiga sword to end its transformation. His usually calm face broke into a frown. How did that mortal wench manage to do that? The memory was still fresh in his mind. I see I'll have to deal with her before reclaiming the Tetsusaiga sword. But how? I underestimated her abilities before. To Jaken surprise, Sessho-maru's lips wore a smile. A cruel heartless smile, but a smile nonetheless. Every mortal has a weakness. That wench has feelings for my little brother, and he for her. This could work for my advantage...
His eyes flew open, startling Jaken. "Jaken how do you get rid of an enemy?"
The attendant was at a loss for words. "Why...I don't know. Wouldn't it be easy if they were anywhere but here?"
Sessho-maru
paused, wondering why he hadn't thought of it before. He laughed a...you
guessed it...a cruel heartless laugh. "You are a fool Jaken but you still
have your moments of brillance as rare as they are."
Jaken was confused.
"Don't you see?" Sessho-maru asked. "You've just come up with the perfect idea. If Inu-Yasha had never been here I would have claimed the Tetsusaiga sword correct?"
Jaken still didn't get it, but nodded.
"All we have to do is change the past," Sessho-maru smirked.
Jaken gasped. "If you did that, then all of history would be confused!"
Sessho-maru waved that aside. "Nothing else matters as long as the Tetsusaiga sword falls into my hands."
"How would you manage to pull that off?" Jaken wondered aloud.
Sessho-maru just smiled. "You'll see, you just wait."
* * * * * * "Ramen Noodles again?!" Kagome groaned as Inu-Yasha offered her some. "Don't you eat anything else?!"
He frowned. "I'm just trying to be nice, you don't have to be rude about it!"
She eyed him strangely. "You? Nice? Somehow those two words weren't meant to be together!"
He scowled and turned away. "You just looked hungry that's all."
"And since when would you care?" She asked with an inquiring eyebrow.
Because...I love you, he thought to himself. He sighed inwardly. He was being nice to Kagome because he wanted to pop the question (and its not that type of question! He'd have to wait until she is out of highschool for that!). He was dying to know if she felt the same way, but hadn't had the corage to find out.
"Where's Shippo?" She asked, looking around.
Inu-Yasha shrugged. "Said he was going somewhere."
"He's not joining us today?"
"Wouldn't it be hard if he's somewhere else?" He snapped sarcastically, and felt slightly guilty as Kagome turned away in shame. He softened. Oh do I always manage to hurt her feelings? Why can't I just be nice? "Kagome I---"
Suddenly, someone pounded on the door. Kagome answered it and Miroku burst in. He was in such a hurry, he nearly ran her over. He held a note in his hands and gasped for air as he handed the note to Inu-Yasha. "Its...from...Sess...Sess...Se---"
"Sessho-maru?" Kagome asked, paling. She caught herself and tried her best to look brave. She didn't want Inu-Yasha to send her back through the well, thinking she was too weak.
Mikaru nodded. "It was posted outside your door."
Inu-Yasja stiffened, his hand rested on the scabbard the Tetsusaiga sword was. "Where is he?"
"I looked all over," Miroku assured him. "He's no longer on the grounds."
Inu-Yasha now read the note:
Surely
you didn't think you've won. I have grown weary from all this senseless
fighting, Why don't we have a final showdown in the old Naoki Shrine at sun
down? The winner keeps the sword for good. Oh...be sure to bring that little
wench of your's. You'll need her to bury your remains after the battle.
Sessho-maru
Inu-Yasha growled. His dog ears flattening against his head. He's not involving Kagome in this! That's for sure!
He didn't notice Kagome reading the letter at his side. "Where is Naoki Shrine? Isn't that the shrine that's haunted by the ghosts of priests and priestesses?"
He snapped to attention and crumpled the letter. "It doesn't matter because you're not going."
"You're not leaving me out of this!" She protested. "I can help you help! Remember what I did last time? I saved your life!"
"And nearly lost your own in the process!" He reminded her. "I'm not going to lose you Kagome!"
She paused in surprise. Could it be that Inu-Yasha had just admitted his true feelings toward her?
He blushed. "Kikyo was a friend of mine too," he said, trying to cover up. "I just don't want to see another die because of me."
"But I'm chosing to do this," she said softly. "I'm responsible for myself."
"Surely you're not thinking of going?!" Miroku exclaimed in horror. "You'll be killed! If he gets his hands on that sword this world will be doomed!"
"I'm going," Inu-Yasha said firmly. He turned to face Kagome, softening. "Please, its not safe. I can handle this myself."
She set her chin firmly. "I'm going, and there's nothing you can do to stop me."
* * * * * *
Once the sun had set, Inu-Yasha and Kagome left town. Miroku had pleaded for him not to leave. He was especially against Kagome going, but she was determined to go. They traveled for an hour to the outskirts of town in silence. Inu-Yasha tried everything to convince her to go back, but she was too stubborn. As they waded through the tall grass at the foot of the Naoki Shrine, Inu-Yasha glanced back at Kagome. She had her arms wrapped around herself and shivered. He frowned. "You brought this on yourself you know?"
"What?" She clearly had had her mind on other things.
"If you hadn't come, you wouldn't be freezing," he pointed out.
She glared at him. "Like I had a choice! I thought we were just scouting for Shikon Shards this afternoon! I wasn't planning on staying after dark!" She suddenly stopped and stared at the Shrine. "Were the lights off before?"
Inu-Yasha followed her gaze. The lights were on and glowing in the crisp moonlight. He stiffened and drew his sword. "Get back Kagome. This isn't going to be pleasant."
"Oh..."She said in awe as she backed away, still amazed at the Naoki Shrine. She bumped into someone and that someone grabbed her arms roughly and held her in place. "Hey! What gives?!"
Inu-Yasha whirled around and narrowed his eyes at Sessho-maru. "You leave her out of this! This is just between you and me!"
Sessho-maru smirked. "You would like to think so wouldn't you?" He ran a slender finger down Kagome's cheek. She flinched at his touch. "You see, I consider her a hindrance in my abtaining the Tetsusaiga sword. And once I get her out of the way---"
"I won't let you destory her!" Inu-Yasha growled as he pointed the transformed Tetsusaiga sword ot him.
Sessho-maru held Kagome in an even tighter grip. "Take another step and you'll regret it."
Inu-Yasha forced himself to stop. Kagome was strugging, but Sessho-maru's grip was too strong. Inu-Yasha wanted to wipe the taunting smirk from his older brother's face. I'll not let it end like this Kagome! I won't let it!
"Jaken! Prepare the ikkai(time) portal!" Sessho-maru called up to the Naoki Shrine. He then whispered close to Kagome's ear. " Say goodbye to your only love. Because you'll never see him again."
Kagome gasped.
"I'm warning you brother," Inu-Yasha threatned. "Let her go or else I'll tear you limb from limb!"
Sessho-maru smirked. "Thank you for the warning."
Jaken said some sort of ritual chant and opened the door of the ancient shrine. Spirits flew towards Inu-Yasha and circled him all crying out in pain and terror. Inu-Yasha slashed at them with his sword, by even the powerful blade couldn't effect them. They circled closer and closer until Kagome could barely see him.
"No! Inu-Yasha!" She struggled even harder.
Inu-Yasha held out a hand towards Kagome as he disappeared in the midst of the spirits.
"No!" Kagome broke free and ran towards the place where Inu-Yasha had disappeared. Sessho-maru grabbed her wrist to stop her. She started to beat on him with her remaining free hand. "I hate you! I hate you!"
He grabbed her other hand and pulled her close.
She still struggled. "What did you do to him?"
Sessho-maru smirked again, pleased with himself. "You needn't worry your pretty little head off, my dear. He's only lost forever in time."
* * * * * *
Inu-Yasha awoke to find himself in the middle of a strange swamp. He rubbed his sore head on which he had fallen on. He looked around his surroundings, surprised to find himself in a swamp. He couldn't recall over being here before and he had been all over his world searching for the Shikon Shards. Then that must mean...I'm no longer in my world...He stood up and looked around. "Kagome?"
No answer.
She's still with my brother, he thought miserably. I should never have let her come. Its all my fault!.
Suddenly, he heard a strange humming noise and creatures were running in his direction. He reached for his sword...but it wasn't there. Now he saw what was chasing the creatures. A giantantic brown machine. He groaned. "And this day just keeps getting better and better!"
He noticed a tall human being about his height running from the machine as well. He had shoulder-length brown graying hair pulled back, a tan tunic, brown leggings tucked into matching travel boots, and a dark brown robe. He looked like someone from Kagome's world, but Inu-Yasha couldn't recall a time he had ever met a man with long hair in her world. Maybe he knows where Kagome is, he thought and took a step forward. "Hey you..."
"Get out of the way!" The man called out.
Inu-Yasha paused, wondering what to do next until the man decided for him. He flattened Inu-Yasha to the ground as the machine passed over them. Inu-Yasha could feel the vibrations of the engines echoing loudly in his ears. He closed his eyes and gritted his teeth to ignore the pain. His sensitive hearing couldn't take much more of this. Just when he though he wouldn't last much longer, the noise ended. He opened his eyes to see the machine had left.
"You almost got us killed!" The man complained as he helped Inu-Yasha to his feet. "Are you brainless?"
Inu-Yasha glared at him. "No I am not! What gives! I never gave you permission to flatten me like a pancake!"
"That's a whole lot better than dying." The man rose an eyebrow as he looked Inu-Yasha over. "What speices are you? You have the most unusal ears..."
Inu-Yasha clamped his hands over them. "None of your business!"
Before the man could continue, a blast of energy hit the ground near him. Inu-Yasha gulped. I never knew energy could do that! He looked up to see another man, younger and with short brown hair, a long thin braid and a short ponytail. Inu-Yasha rose an eyebrow. Were all humans this weird? To his surprise, the older man held a tube in his hands and a green beam of energy emitted from it. He blocked the shots aimed at him and the young man. The bolts bounced back to the machine thing chasing the young man and destroyed it in a ball of flame. Inu-Yasha fell over anime style.
"Thank you master," the young man said breathlessly.
"Master?" Inu-Yasha asked, wondering if these two had lost their sanity completely. "What are you some kind of slave or an apprentice?"
"I'm his padawan," the young man said in a tone that made him appear powerful.
"A what?" Inu-Yasha asked. "A patawand?"
"And I suppose you've never heard of the Jedi," the young man snorted.
"Of course not!" Inu-Yasha snapped. "I just arrived on this strange world whatever its called!"
"You mean you're not a local?" The older man asked.
"Took you long enough to figure it out!" Inu-Yasha snapped. He felt something touch his ear. It was the young man. "Hey! Would you people quit it with the ear thing?!" He growled as he pushed the young man away. "How would you like it if I tugged on your puny little braid?"
Before he could answer, Inu-Yasha yanked on the braid.
"OW!!!" The young man exclaimed.
"Enough!" The older man intervened. "Obi-Wan, you shouldn't be poking and prodding where you shouldn't be." He glanced now at Inu-Yasha. "And there was no need for you to be rude. He just didn't understand he was hurting your feelings."
"I'll do whatever I want whenever I want," Inu-Yasha said firmly. "And no one messes with the ears!"
"And no one messes with my braid," the man called Obi-Wan said smugly.
"If you're not a local, then why are you here?" The older man asked.
"Because my half brother Seesho-maru sent me back in time it appears while holding Kagome hostage in order to get the Tetsusaiga sword."
Obi-Wan and his companion were silent for a moment.
"We'd better let him tag along with us," the older man whispered in Obi-Wan's ear. "His sanity is rather questionable. We wouldn't want him to hurt himself."
Speak for yourself! Obi-Wan thought with a grudge as he massaged his braid.
Inu-Yasha looked around at their surroundings a little more. He frowned as he tried and tried to figure out just where he was. He considered asking, but just picturing Obi-Wan's smirk kept him silent.
"We're on Naboo," Qui-Gon said, reading his mind.
Inu-Yasha stared at him for a moment, then looked proud. "I knew that."
Yeah right! Obi-Wan thought smugly. He looked ahead and pointed. "Look Master! I think its Theed!"
Inu-Yasha rose an eyebrow and followed their gaze. Up ahead was an elegant city with beautiful domed roofs and large statues. He continued to frown. "So? What's so special about it?"
Qui-Gon placed a hand on his shoulder. "Come with us and I'll explain the whole thing."
He explained all about an invasion by the Trade Federation and how some Supreme Chancellor had called them to be ambassadors of peace to prevent any war.
"Did it work?" Inu-Yasha asked.
Qui-Gon shook his head sadly. "No, they tried to poison us with gas. Now we'll just have to work on our own."
Inu-Yasha couldn't help but admire this man. He took the time to explain what was going on and did it in a courteous fashion. Even better, Obi-Wan seemed jealous of this whole thing. Once they entered Theed, they took the back alleys and roads to avoid the main plaza. Inu-Yasha had to move slowly because his long robes made a loud swishing sound. As they were crossing a bridge. Qui-Gon stopped and looked over the edge. Inu-Yasha peeked over the edge too and rose an eyebrow. He saw a bunch of robot looking thingys surrounding a young girl dressed in black (he wondered if she hunted down those birds from which the feather were used for her headdress but then again what type of birds had feathers that long?) in the company offive other girls, one old man with a funky white beard, some odd men with matching attire, and one was dark-skinned.
He glanced up to see Qui-Gon ignite what he called a lightsaber.
"You stay here," he ordered and motioned for Obi-Wan to follow him as he jumped down below. Inu-Yasha watched as they demolished each and every robot, but one bolt of red energy came his way, he ducked behind the wall of the bridge. He waited until Qui-Gon called for him and told him that they were going to sneak to the main hangar to escape the planet.
"So it is here that we must part," Obi-Wan said with a smirk.
"Not necessarily, young padawan," Qui-Gon remarked. "He may join us if he wishes."
Inu-Yasha thought it through. It could be that they knew where Kagome was. It was worth a try wasn't it? "I'm looking for my friend Kagome. Do you know her?"
Qui-Gon tapped his chin in thought. "Not that I know of...but after this is all over, I'll do everything I can to help you."
It wasn't much to go on, but at least it was something.
"You can't allow that...that...creature to accompany the Queen!" The dark skinned man exclaimed in horror. "He looks dangerous...just look at those fangs!"
Inu-Yasha glared at him and snarled...hence showing off his fangs.
"I can assure you he is harmless," Qui-Gon said. "And he will be joining us."
Once that was settled, the dark skinned man who called himself Panaka, led the way through the back alleys into the back of the palace. Inu-Yasha didn't notice any more robot thingys which the others called droids. Once they reached a set of steel doors, Panaka told everyone that the main hangar was full of them.
"That won't be a problem," Qui-Gon assured him, then turned to the Queen. "Under the circumstances, I suggest you come to Coruscant with us."
Inu-Yasha now had a chance to see the Queen better. He was surprised that she was younger than Kagome with dark brown eyes. Judging by her face, she hadn't been a big fan of the sun. She disagreeded, but eventually was convinced that it was best for her people. The group seperated into two one Inu-Yasha went with the group that was headed for the ship. Inu-Yasha had never seen anything like it before. It was sleek metallic silver and HUGE!!! He followed Qui-Gon's orders to not panic and to just walk. He noticed Obi-Wan walking towards a group of captured pilots. Just shows how stupid he is! Inu-Yasha thought with a smirk. He can't even follow simple orders!
"Actually," Qui-Gon said with a smile. "I gave him a seperate order."
Inu-Yasha blushed, forgetting that he could read his mind.
They were stopped by a robot who questioned them. Qui-Gon calmly answered back and when the droids wanted to arrest them, he pulled his lightsaber on them. Once he did, he ordered that everyone boarded the ship at once. Inu-Yasha hurried to do so. Along the way, one energy bolt struck his hand. Fighting back the pain, he continued running until he entered the ship. Qui-Gon soon followed with Obi-Wan on his heels. Inu-Yasha waited by the boarding hatch and tripped Obi-Wan when he entered. Obi-Wan glared at him, but didn't say a word. Inu-Yasha laughed, then winced as his hand continued to ache.
"You're hurt," a handmaiden said. She gingerly touched his hand. "Come with me and I'll help you."
Inu-Yasha marveled at her kindness and followed her into the medic room.
