| In 1917, Eric Lecarde fought against the vampiric countess, Elizabeth Bartley, for killing his newlywed wife, Gwendolyn. When Lecarde emerged as the victor, Bartley's castle, the Castle Proserpina, sank into the depths of Proserpina Lake, England. When Bartley was killed, her soul was sealed inside a locket she wore around her neck. By simply opening it, Elizabeth would be brought back to the world of the living. Digging his lover's locket from the remains of the castle, Jadin Tray was about to open the locket and bring back the countess when a shadowed figure, obviously female, knocked it from his grasp. Jadin watched in horror as the locket plumetted down into the depths of Proserpina lake. |

| 85 years later, a young witch by the name of Clara Belnade was in Proserpina lake, when she came across the locket by chance. Knowing what was sealed inside of the locket, she cast a spell on it so that Elizabeth would not be released so easily. The spell was so powerful that not even she could reverse it. Clara, along with her boyfriend Eric Belmont (Shadow in the first edition) and her best friend, Sora Tonitrus, a Dunpeal, were vampire hunters, and met up with Adrian 'Alucard' Fahrenheits Tepes, the elder son of Vlad Tepes Dracula. Alucard joined the group after learning of Clara's possession of his cousin's locket. |

| However, by an unknown word of mouth, rumor spread across Transylvania that Clara had Bartley's locket. Hearing this, Jadin Tray came out of hiding, in hopes that the rumor was true. Along with his friend Victor, they searched along the cities. Finding Clara, they continually pursued her after discovering that she DID have the locket, but their efforts refused to avail. Sora's twin sister, Rhiannon, eventually joined up with Jadin and Victor, making the situation even worse. Now fearing the worst, Clara consults Alucard and asks if she can resurrect the entire Belmont line, Eric's ancestors that were famous for their vampire hunting skills. For Alucard, she even offers to resurrect his mother, whom had been murdered in a witch hunt 500 years before. |

| Alucard accepts Clara's offer, and lets her resurrect the Belmonts. As Clara is casting the spell, the locket that contains Elizabeth starts to glow, somehow hypnotizing Clara to speak the spell wrong. After realizing her mistake, Clara quickly fixes it, but something goes wrong... |
