Heather was born in 1964 in Tulsa, Oklahoma. She married Alan Pascua in 1984, but divorced him shortly after. She is now remarried to someone who does special effects, and she made this comment about her role in Wes Craven's New Nightmare: "It was hard to convince my husband it would be all right, especially when he found out that he was in the script, being played by another actor." She currently has two children.

Before the first Nightmare, she had a bit part in The Outsiders and a TV movie called Passions. Shortly after the first Nightmare, she had a starring role in Nickel Mountain, where she played a pregnant teenager. Heather is very well known for her role as Marie Lubbock on the sitcom Just the Ten of Us. She has also portrayed Nancy Kerrigan in a TV movie, and she has made small appearances in Shocker and The Demolitionist.

Here's what Heather Langenkamp told Fangoria about her involvement in the first and third Nightmares: "When I did the original Nightmare on Elm Street, my agent at the time didn't think too much of it. It was just a low-budget horror film, a job to them. But it definately affected my career. I was shocked at how many producers and casting people had seen the movie. By the time I did the third one, everybody in the industry was getting a little older, but I was hearing now that the kids of the producers and casting directors were seeing the movies and telling their parents how great they were. You could tell at that point that the Nightmare films had become more mainstream."

Wes Craven's New Nightmare was partially based on a real-life stalking incident that happened to Heather while she was working on Just the Ten of Us. She recalls of the incident, "It was shocking and a bit unsettling. I mean, I played a very wholesome, religious character on a television sitcom. The initial reaction from people when the letters and stuff started happening was it had to do with my being the Nightmare on Elm Street films. People automatically assumed that it was a Freddy fan who was after me. In fact, I've never had a fan problem with the Nightmare films. The fans and the films have been very good to me."

Heather can currently be seen playing the female lead in a new direct-to-video movie titled Fugitive Mind.
