Press Release
In celebrating the feast of St. Anthony of Padua, the Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Chapel
has donated all funds collected in honor of St Anthony through the year and at the Mass, celebrated on June 13 to Eva's Kitchen.  Mass was celebrated in a full chapel  adjacent to the Bishop Rodimer Catholic Campus Ministry Center.  Members of  the congregation were from the university and friends of the chapel from throughout the diocese.
"The William Paterson University Catholic Campus Ministry has had a service relationship with Eva's Kitchen and Sheltering Programs for twenty years.  Our students have served on Fridays, collected thousands of dollars in the annual 'Shelter the Homeless and Thanksgiving Awareness Programs'" said Fr. Louis Scurti,, Director of the Bishop Rodimer Catholic Campus Ministry Center and Jesus Christ Prince of Peace Chapel.  "For the past two years, since the construction of our chapel, we continue this service to Eva's by donating all of the funds collected through the year in honor of St Anthony and the collection at the Mass, to the kitchen."
Fr. Lou continued: "We started this celebration,  in remembrance of my parents, Frank & Rose as well as my godmother, Grace (Lena) Anthony, who were devoted to St. Anthony. The statue we have in the Chapel is my  god mother's, which dates from the early 1940's; she died in 1962, the statue went to my parents, both of whom have passed away.  The year 2000 was the first year my father was not alive for the feast of St. Anthony, and that was the beginning of the tradition here at the Chapel." Said Fr. Lou.
"As we processed the statue on the grounds of the Center and Chapel, it brought back many memories of our processions in Holy Rosary Church, Jersey City." He said.   In light of the tradition of "St Anthony's Bread" for the poor, it was decided that the money collected throughout the year, would honor his memory best by being donated to the poor of Eva's Kitchen. Annnette Pierce, coordinator of the Kitchen was present to receive the gift of $575.
