| ...But what is Final Fantasy VIII? |
| Final Fantasy VIII is a video game for the Playstation 1 console, but will also run on the Playstation 2(as will all PS1 games). It falls under the catagory of RPG, which stands for role playing game. An 18 year old teenager named Squall (pictured above), is training in Balamb Garden, a school, to become a SeeD, an elite mercenary soldier for hire. His very first mission requires him to liberate a city across seas, known as Timber. Once a peacful town, this area has come under the control of the merciless Galbadian army. Along with his newfound friends, Rinoa, Selphie, Zell, Irvine, and Quistis, Squall liberates the town, and is then sent to assasinate the new leader of Galbadia, Sorceror Edea. The attempt fails horribly, and Squall is gravely injured. *Spoiler Alert!* Do not read forward if you want to leave the events (not plot) of the game a secret for you to unlock! Squall and his team are imprisoned in a prison, but escape after Squall is tortured. The galbadians fire missiles at the Garden, and Squall returns hoping to warn the students there. Instead, he finds a civil war. The entire Garden has split into two opposing teams, the headmaster and Gardenmaster teams. Squall interupts the battle, however, and transforms the school into a flying machine. With Garden under his control, Squall sets out to find the sorceress. He finds her, and releases her of ultimecia, a sorceress who needed time compression to exist. Time compression prevailed, and Squall found himself with only one option: to kill Ultimecia. |
