The War is On! Tournament Report

This tournament was the first VTES tournament organized by the new Prince of Gatineau, Christian Chnard

Most players present were locals but a few players from the Montreal region attended

On this cold december saturday morning, 18 methuselahs were engaged in a tough battle trying to secure part of the Sabbat War Booster box offered as a prize by the local prince.

After a slow start ( 1hr delay), the 3 preliminary rounds got underway...

This tournament was the scene of a few unusual things, a 12 years old Vtes player (probably the undisputed under 15 champ of Quebec), many decks not usually seen at tournaments (some basic potence rush decks, gangrel aggravate,nosferatu...)

Many players present were"newbies" to the game (old magic players) and seemed new to the tournament format

Personally, I played a Lasombra "bleed/stealth and POTENCE" deck which did pretty well against unexperienced players and those without enought intercept :). I found the deck too one sided though, I rarely got to use my potence cards (not sure if its by choice or luck yet...). The deck was weak defensively, the 10 deflections were supposed to counter for the lack of intercept but as I came to realize during the final game, bounce cards do very little against unblocked votes...
I stumbled during my first round, where I almost ousted my prey to see my predator oust me and my prey in the same round! (thanks MARK!) In the secound round I was able to take advantage of a few ongoing battles at the table and bleed my way to 4 victory points! The third round saw me trying to oust Christian Chnard and his pool generating deck... (man could it produce pool!)I knew I had to strike early... I did, and managed to oust him before he got another of his minion taps out...
In the final game, I was sitting between a political/stealth deck and a bleed stealth, I came out hard but my prey's many bleed reductions and deflections nulified many of my bleeds... Quickly my predator took control of the table with his many stealthy vamps, calling votes and generating lots of pool in the process (and costing me many!)Mark Landry who played a Toreador heavy intercept deck only drew 2 intercept cards the whole game and was unable to stop the eventual winner of the tournament from taking over the table...

Congragulations to the finalists!

Christian Chnard 7 vps (pool generating deck)
Samuel Blanger 7 vps (Malkavian) (2vps in final game)
Hugues Bertrand 7 vps (Lasombra)
Olivier Jackson 8vps (Nosferatu) (3vps in final game)
Mark Landry 9vps (Toreador)

Congragulations to Olivier Jackson and his Nosferatu political deck for winning the final game!
